THE Giant Weta

I'm guessing it might hop about a foot or less, quick hops to get away. Man that'd be cool to get ahold of a pair of those, bet a branch of US gov no wikey them here though.

These articles sure do sensationalize them don't they? They are hardly the largest insect, meh. Giant stick insects and Titan beetles put that thing to shame in length and bulk. Still, it is a huge insect by any standards, just not THE huge insect.

Who is going to describe the sun in terms of candlepower? This is a sensationally bright light in the spectrum of insects and huge by any and all measures.

That's why I say they are overly sensationalizing it. It's huge, yes. But there is both heavier and longer insects out there...yet every report keeps stating "largest" insect alive blah blah blah. It's big, I get it, but get your facts straight journalists.

everyone remember in the new King Kong, when those massive weta where jumping all over the fellows in the pit? I was disappointed to see that nobody lost fingers. As they would've started nibbling right away.
