Hello, I've decided to test the theroy that Steatoda Triangulosa can reproduce asexually (I know there's a better word for it, but I forgot what it was) for myself. If anyone would be interested in my updating weekly or daily let me know, as I'm planning to document it for myself either way and don't mind posting it here to.

Week 0 E. 1:

Un-mated steatoda triangulosa lays an egg sac, confirmed unmated as I've kept her away from males and obtained her before final molt, eggsac will be monitored. Future updates will be on this thread weekly or as things happen if my other female lays one too, ill moniter and update as needed on that one also.

My other female just layed one last night (had the first females since Sunday, but hadn't thought to test this) so I will test that also (convenient timing) anyhow!

Week 0 E. 2:

Un-mated steatoda triangulosa lays an egg sac, confirmed unmated as I've kept her away from males and obtained her before final molt, eggsac will be monitored.

Observation based hypothesis:
Eating can cause steatoda triangulosa to reproduce without need of a male as both were laid right after the mother spider had a meal.
Week 2 E1:
A small portion of the eggs appears to have either hatched or died, there is still a core of eggs leading me to believe it still has a chance of hatching.

Week 2 E2:
No changes made by me or the female and appearance remain constant

Week 3 E1:

All eggs possibly about to/have hatched and are yet to emerge, color is significantly darker.

Week 3 E2:
Same as last week.

Well mine hatched today. I released the little buggers into the woodpile.

@Godsmack1934 I do believe you were correct about the laying after feeding thing. Without fail it seems mine lays within a week of feeding. I went to check just now and once again she laid a new clutch. They are really prolific layers.

This is so interesting! My house is over run with these what I believe to be grossa and nobilis, things are everywhere in my home n garden. I did start keeping the females when I first noticed them but I find that many now I gave up n just let them go again . It was only grossa at first but last year the nobilis turned up in my garden, they aren't even ment to be here apparently it's too cold but my home n garden differs 😂
I had no idea they could be mated just before a moult though very interesting, n cool if they don't need a male either not that it matters here think there's more males then females 😆 constantly moving them out of harms way while they mission about for a female.
Got everything crossed the sac hatches for you n congratulations CRX next time needs to see the baby's doing their thing please 😉 love seeing baby's do their thing so tiny n cute 🥰

My favorite local vineyard has a bunch of them with their slings in the bathroom windows.

Ps amazing window frame ! She chose a nice spot for her web . Clever momma 😊.
I hope the babies disperse before the owners tear that bathroom apart. They are doing remodeling.

I hope so too! I would be taking a few catch cups and trying to help them out 😆 I wouldn't be able to help myself.

Can't get into the window without breaking it. Hopefully they disperse soon. I believe the renovations are a few weeks away.
It makes me mad. If you approach the owner with concern about the spiders in their windows, they;d probably think you were a loon. "What kinda weirdo is looking at spiders in our windows? We should probably keep an eye on this person". SMDH. I hate those people, yes I hate them, because it actually IS their fault, they have the option of education and learning about the animals they live with and they willfully choose ignorance. Its their choice to be ignorant, and its my choice to hate them.
