Hi all,

I've been very curious about these guys for a few years, but can't find much information at all on exactly what species are present in the area and where to look for them. My folks have an acreage out there (mid island) and I visit often - I would really like to start looking in earnest. So far from what I gather Hexura picea and Antrodiaetus pacificus may be present, but are there others? The information I've been able to find is sparse at best.

I have seen it used quite frequently when referring to species such as H. picea and those related. I do not know what would be more appropriate to use.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic as I'm using the wrong term, or genuinely don't know. If anyone knows what I should be referring to the group as, please enlighten me. :)

No sarcasm, I was genuinely asking as I have never heard that term before. When I searched for it I found nothing related to biology, so thought I'd just ask you.

Rod Crawford's checklist is publicly available, but not completely up to date. http://www.tardigrade.org/natives/crawford/checklist.html
The info I found on them was in a kind of roundabout way (not through Google) and when I searched 'tarantuloids' or even species name very little info came up. I guess the spiders I am looking for are all Mygalomorphs but not true tarantulas and not all trapdoor spiders either.

Ciphor - that checklist is handy, but probably won't help much for Vancouver Island - lots of stuff on the mainland isn't seen there.

Rod very much frequents the islands. That checklist is for all of WA, corner to corner, islands included.
