I love it when a serious and completely reasonable topic becomes entertaining.

And yet, there's been no mention of the spider attempting a friendly game of pattycake.
I think given the opportunity they'd be quite good at it, what with all them appendages and such.

That is an excellent point. Could you picture them doing those complicated secret handshakes from when we were kids?

Very much so!
Secret handshakes, secret clubs, the works.

I suspect they'd be awful at jump rope and hopscotch, though.

Can I get a fist bump, or a high 4?

My T was afraid of dubias at first! I put one in front of her, w/tongs, it scuttled towards her, and she put in reverse! Lol. She won't usually eat in my presence, except for grasshoppers. So, roaches and mealies, burrow and hide. Like the OP's, she digs them up, and makes a mess of her substrate. Also, I throw a few carrot wedges in, every 2wks or so for the prey. Everytime, I'll walk into my studio, and there's T, on top of the carrot! Looks like she is sucking the juice out of it! What's up with that??? Anybody else?

Prey shouldn't be left to burrow in your ts enclosure, or live in the enclosure until eaten. Uneaten prey should be removed.

Oh, I absolutely agree.

See I had a roach stuck in my GBBs enclosure for two molts because i would see it one day, my baby would lunge, it would disappear again. She finally caught it after the last molt. In retrospect (and after learning that roaches can eat molting tatantulas like crickets), i should have just emptied the enclosure...:bag:

I would only use this method to draw out prey that burrows and i can't find.

I crush their heads, but sometimes it seems like they can function without their head and still might be drawn to food?

Your tarantula might be thirsty. Vegetables have a decent water content.

I put the carrot wedges in to attract anything that may have hidden in the enclosure, and so that, on the rare occasion that she doesn't eat it first, it won't take a bite out of her. My T will rarely eat in my presence, except for grasshoppers.

Perhaps she likes carrot juice better than her water...who knows?

Sigh....have a nice day all.
Later.

You give your spiders water?
Everyone knows they prefer a vegetable/fruit blended smoothie. ;)
