Hey all,

So I would like to offer a service for pinning our pets that have passed on, including tarantulas but not limited to them, any arachnid, or arthropod, including soft bodied arthropods, Like caterpillars, I can do too. I personally do this with my pets that die and I pin them and put them back up on display.

I have offered this to some people, who have had tarantulas die, but so far no takers. I would like to get input on who would be interested in this service so I can put a post up in the classifieds.

I have about 10yrs of constant yearly experience pinning insects. I have developed a system for negating abdomens that deflate in the drying process and I am in the process of establishing a system for trying to fix the colors in insects and spiders, I have had success with this, in some hard and soft bodies Arthropods and small spiders.
I have yet to try it out on a tarantula, cause I am at the point in this hobby where I have not had a tarantula die on me yet.

If anyone is willing to offer me a colorful tarantula to try my color fixing process on and it is a success and does not affect the setae negatively, which it may, I’m really not sure. I will be happy to provide you with this service free of charge, I may or may not include shipping as well! Not all Tarantulas will need this process, I’m thinking just the very colorful ones, I have found blues don’t hold well in insects except butterflies, Or if people do not care about trying to preserve colors that is okay too.

Ideally I prefer not to pin slings. As I can not as of yet have way to stop the abdomens from deflating at this extremely small size. juveniles, through Adults will be the easiest to work with , for this reason alone, it’s not the size that is the problem.

I can pin things flat or made to look like they are still in motion, I can pin them to look like how their species sits naturally, for example how poecilotheria sits or spread the legs out. I can try and do what ever someone wants.

I’m sure I could even pin a tarantula in threat pose, would just have to make a jig for it. But I would ideally like to work with a few before I try and do that position, just need to get used to how they actually dry and what I would have to work with first in the process.

So let me know what you guys think and who would be interested in this! Hope everyone has a great day! Thanks for reading!

Oh I would definitely be interested! I have a Tliltocatl albopilosus that is in his end days (maybe). He's a year post ultimate molt. He was my daughter's first tarantula. Oh, I wonder if he could be pinned next to his molt? We have that too. Or maybe that would look dumb. I bought the stuff to attempt at displaying it myself and so it sits, displayed prominently on a paper plate in the cabinet with the feeders.

He’s beautiful!! I would be happy to do this for you!
And I could do it next to it’s molt if you wanted, that’s up to you, or do them both separately.
And thanks you for posting a picture of it, this is a great reference to go off of, if you wanted it to be pinned like it is standing up like that!!

Definitely. He looks so handsome all spread out like that and that's the way he sits most of the time. Well, except when he's hanging upside down or recovering from his eleventy thousandth fall into the water dish. :p

Lots of people ask about this over time. Great idea!

We had a member who did taxidermy and offered years ago.

Thanks, apprecite it!! I havent seen anyone specifically ask since i joined AB, but I thought people might be interested in keeping their pets out on diplay even after the pass. Good to know people have wanted this done before!

Yeah these get asked periodically. I don't think it's a THING because most assume it can't be done probably. I think it's a great idea.

Dug Died...so I mounted her in a display box. She was a real nice spider and she is dearly missed.

It defiitely can be done! but I have waited till I could figure out a way to prevent the abdomen from shriveling in the drying process but that a problem of the past now thankfully!
@Colorado Ts this is what im refering to on your tarantulas abdomen! it s shivels as the contents inside dry out.

Yeah...it shriveled. Took a little over a month to dry completely.

I followed you a while back on here for the future when I do have one of my lovely creatures pass. Fortunately I am not in need of anything yet but I have you in mind for the future

Okay awesome thank you everyone for your feedback! I will try and make a classifieds post soon! I just have to figure out all the logistics and the costs to do this for people.
And I think I will use this thread to post pinning work for people that I complete with this service.
