You really need to send him to someone that has (1) a female G. rosea, (2) experience in this matter and (3) a good reputation. I suggest going to the invertpersonals to find a female rosea.
Here is the thing. I would urge you to send him to a female. Having the urge to mate and not find a mate is the most horrible thing that could happen to a tarantula, or any animal. It is even worse than death. If you don't want to go through the trouble of finding a female for him, box him, and send him via overnight, he will pay a very high price for it, not you.
I'm assuming you're a guy. Imagine that you are horny and there is no girl anywhere to be found.

I don't plan on breeding taratulas and don't know of anyone in my area looking to breed, nor do I plan on sending him through the mail so he can get his groove on. Guess it could be considered heartless of me that a horny man wanting to mate can't get any.

You don't have to breed the tarantulas. All you have to do is send the tarantula through the mail and tell the owner of the female he/she could have all the babies. I was trying to be funny when I said horny, but the situation is much worse than what you would consider the human nature to breed.Originally posted by tuffy

If you think that simply not letting him to mate will solve the problem, you are mistaken. The tarantula will die a slow and horrible death soon after maturity if he doesn't get to breed. He'll start trying to escape with all his strength until he exhausts himself and then quietly die.
Again, I don't think you understand completely just how serious the situation is for your tarantula's well being. He's going to die a slow and horrible death if you don't send him off, period.
I still don't understand why you refuse to send him off to a female. All it takes is some packing and a short trip to the postal service and you're done. You don't have to do anything after that, unless you want half of the babies if there'll be any.
It's breaking my heart that you have no real reason for not sending him off to breed.

We have a mature A. Moderatum here, a beautifull guy, but there is no one with a female who is interested. Have tried putting him with what we think is a mature female, same species with her
eventually just walking away from him and he didn't follow. Like I said, I'm not even certain its a girl. So Dre is going to suffer I guess. I doubt if you can always find someone interested in using your males. I think our Rosie is a mature girl, but I don't know anything about breeding them and raising babies. My husband would have a fit if I tried this, he has already said so. He doesn't
know that Laura and I have put him in with her female? just to see what would happen.

To make some kind of effort to give the guy a chance to breed is better than no effort at all. I realized that not every male tarantula is going to get laid, but to simply put him aside because you don't "feel" like spending less than 1 minute to post a "I need a female rosea" announcement is just wrong.
Sorry if I have made some people uneasy, but I am very passionate about these creatures. In the wild, at least they have a chance to breed everytime when the time is right. In captivity, they are completely at our mercy, and having a merciless owner is just about the worst thing for a male tarantula.

This has been a rather interesting and somewhat funny thread.No need for him to even post if he wants to breed. Most any pet store will have an adult female. He has stated he does not wish to try and breed. Since that is the case he will probably have the male for several more months to a year+.
I know the way you post and sometimes tend to post just for the debate or reaction. It is total BS to call someone merciless because they don't breed their Rose Hair. You do know we are talking about a Grammostola rosea right? If it was something rare ike Xenesthis immanis where males are kinda hard to come by I too would be encouraging him to find a mate.

I'm not sure which is worst, getting eaten by a bird or living in a nice warm enclosure, being fed big fat crickets without a female.
Not everybody's into packing a $10.00 rosea, paying $28.00 for overnite shipping and sending it to someone they don't know, when they have no interest in any of the offspring.
