Everything that provide shelter and darkness and has a surface where the tarantula can sit and hunt. The material should also not be able to mold.

I like corkbarktubes my self. They comes in diffrent dimentions and provides a natural "snugness" that aboreal tarantulas love. Another pro with those is that if you have a defenssive speicies with hot venom, thise tubes makes it very easy to rehouse the spider. Usally it will sit tight inside the tube, and it is very easy just to move the tube with spider inside from.its old cage to a new one

Cork bark flats propped against the back wall, or cork rounds. You can hot glue some moss and fake plants on the bark and it helps provide more cover and anchor points for webbing.

Are there any decent alternatives to cork bark, or is just a staple?
Drift wood....broken pots or cups....bisected pvc pipe...anything that wont absorb moisture, mold and break down can work.

Like coco fiber, cork is the hobby staple....but that doesnt make them the only or even best choices (others can be just as good).
