My B. Boehmei has been acting weird recently where it wouldn't accept food. I thought it was just acting that way because of premolt but it is not being very reclusive... in fact I see it trying to climb its habitat regularly which is also usual for its normal behavior. I just now I decided to try any feed it again and it responded by burying the piece of food in the substrate. Does anyone know what this might mean?

Probably tired of you feeding it non-name brand feeders. It’s like get this filth outta here.

That's strange. My tarantulas usually don't start burying food for the winter until early October. Have you been running your air conditioner a lot lately?

But seriously... sometimes they just do what they do, and there's no telling why. It's just being a spider.

yeah, red and brown or blackish, decomp can vary in appearance based on the particular microbial decomposer.

If I gave you a cheeseburger that you didn't want and was gonna rot soon.....and you lived in your bed....I bet you'd hide it under the mattress or at LEAST the covers!!!!

:)

Edit: In the PILLOWCASE!!?

funny enough is i haven't dug it out yet because i don't know if I should. The only reason i see it is that it is up against the habitat's wall

Yes. You should. Never leave uneaten food in there for 24 hrs or if its clearly not interested in the item/buries it. You may lose it and it can rot and cause problems.

It probably is just full. I observed in Lasiodora parahybana that if they are really full and a prey bothers them, they would kill the prey, web it up in a bundle and just leave it there. Yours probably add a step of covering it with substrate.

And definitely try to remove uneaten prey after about 24 hours.

Remove the uneaten prey And try again in a week. It might just not be interested. I’ve had slings kill prey and then drop it outside their burrows, they just do things like that sometimes

The Psalmopoeus slings are doing this at the moment, and just sealed off their burrows/dirt curtains. The cambridgei threw a fit when a cricket came near its burrow before I noticed it was sealed off.

That’s what happens to me with most flighty specimens

Edit: he decided to web up the food and use it as bedding to molt on....
