Let me hop in with the good, old Velvet spider!
Cute, easy and offen seen. Calm, beautiful and some are communal.

But yeah, Heterothele sp. and Neothele are nice too.

I realize that you have decided to go the dwarf route, and I do not wish to discourage you. But I thought I would share another idea that I just came up with in case you want to consider something else in the future. It’s somewhat similar to what I suggested earlier.
My idea is that you could get a smaller (2-3”) juvenile of a slower-growing species. This way your roommates could adjust to you keeping a larger spider without worrying about it getting substantially larger anytime soon, and without you having to wait years for it get out of the sling stage. It would also allow you more freedom in what species you are able to keep, as you wouldn’t be limited to just dwarf species. The downsides are that in comparison to a sling, the price would be higher, especially for a sexed female, and the availability and selection more limited.

H Venatoria. 8 leeged sewer rat. Durable, somewhat long life span. Ultra easy maintenance. Just delay the inevitable and let it go in the house. Put something out in an obscure out of the way place that attracts insects and let it forage for itself.

Remind me to move to Bangkok.

People I'm living with right now are afraid of them for whatever reason. Everything else is OK, just not tarantulas or scorpions for some reason.

Excellent suggestions! Yeah, I've tried to get dwarf ones too, still no luck :(
I'm no expert by any means and have the same problem "no inverts in this house (nothing but dogs really)" but i would recommend millipedes or isopods maybe even beetles, or if your group is comfortable centipedes even. I would choose millipedes personally especially bumble bee millipedes (Anadenobolus monilicornis)

Mantids might be cool too

I think letting them see the tarantula in it’s enclosure and just letting them see how tarantulas are not as bad as they think, it could probably make them have a less fear of some tarantulas at least

I wouldn't go for bumble bee millipedes as you will never see them, they are very small too

I never really thought of keeping mantids personally, but I do love to watch the ones that show up around my house during the summer

Fascinating, we don't get wild ones where I am from so they are quite the novelty, I recommend them because by nature they don't hide thus good for display, are voracious eaters ( admittedly it's finicky for low instars) they have an awareness different from other inverts, they can watch you, I've taught mine to fly from one hand to the other ( admittedly with poor results whether it's a result of trying or simply a natural instinct) they also live for only a year or upto 2 thus longevity isn't an issue
