I had a close one a couple weeks ago when my A. avicularia decided she wanted to jump out of my hands, luckly I caught her before she landed on my tile floor.

When trying to put my A. Avic back after handling her she kept crawling up my arm while i was trying to guide her into her cage. I ended up pissing her off quite a bit trying to redirect her and she jumped from my forearm to my chest. Luckily, she's a good jumper cause if she'd of fallen it'd of been a nice 4 foot drop onto hardwood floors. Very careful when I put her back now. :)

Still my worst accident was when one of my shelves suddenly collapsed. Two survived but my P.irminia, Pita had been fatally wounded.

I poked my rosie with a pencil on the abdomen and it turned around and bit onto it. Flung it and it almost died but grabbed onto my bed. Felt so horrible.

I thankfully have not had any to this day. But one morning I had to get up for work early and found my NCF G. rosea hanging from the roof of her terrarium with just one leg to far away from the glass to get a grip. So the wife and I jumped up and I tipped the cage to the side so she could catch the side just as she did her wood hide comes crashing down at her almost smashes my little baby:eek: she jumps out of the way to safety. To say the least she was in shock for like two weeks:cry: but is back to her old smashing on crickets little girl  I still can't help but think how bad it could have been if I did not have to get up early that day

My first T I got was an Avic avic, I wanted to hold him. I nudged him up and onto my hand. Each time his foot would touch my palm it was like he was afraid and didnt want to touch my hand. Tapping his feet and then backed up and turned. I finally got him onto my hand and went to take him away from the enclosure. As i did that he jumped out of my hand and landed right in the middle of his enclosure, about a foot and a half down. I was scared he might have got hurt, but was perfectly fine. That is the closest I have been. Besides my G. pulchripes sling getting out and finding it crawling for under my bed right where my nephew and brother were walking around.

I had a moment and knocked my G. pulchripes sling in his deli cup enclosure off of my spider box about three feet to the floor. I said some bad words and thought some more bad words.

I picked up his enclosure and took off the top and could not even find him then he came crawling out of the sub like WTF did I do to deserve that. I waited about 20 minutes and give him a big fat cricket for his troubles that was several molts and about 2 inches agao. It seemed to never even bother s/he at all I guess the sub cushioned her fall.

Ive killed dozens of spiders over the years buy knocking over or dropping vials. My all times stupidest murder was trying to get a real up close pic of a E. vulpinus slings. Got so close I squished the tiny sling with the camera lens lol. They were expensive at the time as well. My biggest mass murders were due to dehydration. If you haven't lost a spider from dehydration yet, your not keeping enough spiders.

I could be mistaken but don't avics or arboreals in general have chemoreceptors on their feet? Maybe something was on your skin that it didn't like? Just a thought.

I was digging out one of my LP slings to rehouse into a bigger deli cup, the enclosure was on a plastic rubbermaid table. Plastic on plastic is a slippery combo, the cup dumped out, she went on a nuts sprint on the table an I grabbed the nearest deli cup I had and I thought squashed one of her legs, but she didn;t show signs injury and has molted into a beautiful juvy since then.

By far the worst accident I had was back in 2005. I decide it was a good idea to handle my 4" female OBT. I thought since she had settled down, wasn't giving threat postures like she had in the past I would attempt to handle. Bad idea, once on my hand something startled her, threw a threat posture. She slapped the upper part of the my right hand a few times. I decided to attempt to let her craw onto a large deli container lid and that's when I got bit. I got somewhat dry bite, but ti still didn't feel pleasant for a about 4 hours.

Well, I spoke too soon. I rehoused both of my 4 - 5" dls Aphonopelma sp 'Murietta' yesterday into 5.5 gallon tanks. I very carefully allowed a range of 4 - 5" of ceiling height for each of them, slightly more than what they have had for the past 6 months. Several hours after the move, which went without a hitch, I caught the 4" one doing pull-ups on the inside lip of the tank, and in horror watched her fall. Because she was in 'up' mode when she lost her grip, she fell a couple of inches. No hemolymph leakage that I can appreciate, but once she got herself settled, she hasn't moved since. That's not unusual in itself, I'm just in a panic that she sustained damage in the fall. I feel like a terrible spider mom. :-(

sorry for the long story and grammar.. :D

this is my experience in the hobby I just want to share to all ..
I got home late and start feeding my T's. (based on what I've read, T’s are moreactive at night so I feed them at night ..) I get some lats and start feeding my sub adult T's (it’s an enclosure that's divided in four and a sliding lid for the 4 division) and on top of it are delicups with slings..I open them slightly so I can put some lateralis inside) then I put 2-3 lats that’s appropriate for the T’s to eat..

after finishing that I started feeding the slings .. and in my last two slings. p.met and p.formosa .. I looked my p.met on small enclosure (made from scrap acrylic because it is special for me) Then I open the enclosure.. Suddenly my P.Met nervously runs inside its encolure.. (maybe due to the vibration I did when I open the lock so my P.Met got scared and nervously runs for cover but it got out the enclosure .. I check behind the enclosure and I saw my P.met running on the direction toward opened portion of the Lid of my sub adult smithi ... suddenly bad words come out of my mouth when I see my p.met running under my smithi (the this running in my mind "@ # $% ^ & *! my p.met might got eaten) and sadly I saw my smithi’s front leg and pedipals dragging my p.met to add it on his meal.. so I grab a brush and try to make a move to make the smithi stop biting the roach he is eating and the p.met in its fangs.while the smithi is is confused why im poking him by a brush( not knowing that I just want to save the sling he bite that he mistakenly identified as a sling Rather than a roach).my smithi kick lots of urticating hairs and a cloud of urticating hairs covers the enclosure and leave the roach together with bitten P.met and turn to corner of his enclosure
the poor was still alive luckily p.met and getting out of the path of the smithi .. a front leg and a pedipalps was lost on that accident and I saw the P.met’ struggle to escape.. after that, i immediately transfer the P.Met to a vial with wet tissue as an ICU for the incident that happen to the sling that ..

next morning i check the sling..i tried to give my P.met a Lats to eat but still no interest..(maybe my P.met is still in shock). As of now my P.met is ok and recovered its lost leg and pedipalps .. ill update if something odd (i lord forbid) happens. I hope the sling will survive this ordeal.

I know its my fault.. (It’s my negligence) while leaving enclosures open while feeding slings .. I can say that from this incident I Learned a lesson and I hope that this accident will be a lesson to others also so we can avoid these kinds of accident on our hobby.

I was getting my G.Rosea out of his home, i had my hand out and as he was walking out he slipped on his tank, he threw up a threat and i moved my hand back a bit, he slipped again and fell, 4 ft onto a hard plastic box , he mad a loud thump noise, he seemed a bit disorientated and thre a threat stance when i went to recover him, he then waklked off.

Got him back in, he was leaking a little from 2 leg joins, next morning no leaks, 2 months on, happy as anything displaying typical MM behaviour and eating like a tank!
