T putting legs up on glass

My T usually hung out on top of his rock or inside. However the last two days he has been by the side of the glass cage with either two legs or most of this legs up on the glass. Could there be something wrong with the temperature or is he just getting a different view?

I am completely new to this hobby. This T named Charmander is a rescue from our local animal control when a house was foreclosed on in January and he was left behind. I don't even know his sex or age. He is a good cricket eater though and molted last month.

First of all, nice Charmander figurine. Second, not enough sub and it looks like that’s a ten gallon and the height concerns me since he/she might ev able to climb up it and fall down. The T is probably just wandering around or something of the like.

First and foremost, welcome to the hobby :) Your t is probably just doing spider things, so nothing to worry about. Do you know what species he or she is? Also, your enclosure looks good, but it could use a few improvements, such as more substrate (enough to leave no more than a gap that is 1.5x the legspan of the tarantula (a 4” tarantula would have a 6” gap from lid to top of substrate)) and perhaps moist substrate, depending on the species. Personally, this looks like an A. geniculata or A. brocklehursti to me, which appreciate some moisture ime.

Where a t decides to hang out isnt a concern in a proper set up.

T keeping is relatively simple, dont over think things and definitely dont try to analyze your ts behavior...they dont have brains, so no complex thoughts....its just doing what its doing.

Glad you saved it....looks like B. hamorii....fairly low food needs, id suggest just feeding it twice a month unless you are feeding small prey.

What these other posters don't have the heart to tell you is that it looks like your tarantula is afflicted with legonglassitis. Very serious, but if you ship it directly to me I might be able to save it.

Thank you all for the replies. I have no background on him but we think by looks he is a Brachypelma smithi. He has about an inch of eco earth substrate on the bottom of a 10 gallon. He has the rock, a water dish, a fake plant, and a Pokémon in the enclosure. He had been eating 3 crickets a week but should I cut back?

Background isn't all that important.

Hamorii used to be known as smithi until fairly recently.

To make it safe, it will need to be filled about halfway with sub, maybe a little more. Otherwise the height is a safety issue.

He had been eating 3 crickets a week but should I cut back?
Yeah, cut back. Heavy feeding isn't actually bad, but it will lead to a significant fasting period prior to molting...by that I mean it could basically end up just sitting there refusing food for 6 months to a year. There is absolutely no hurry to plump a slow growing t

Thanks for stepping up to the plate for this little tyke. And thank you to your local animal control organization for taking them in and finding them a home.

I am a regular dog/cat foster and was returning some kittens for spay/neuter adoption when I saw him. When I showed fascination instead of fear they basically walked the cage right out to my car then!
The sheriffs office handed him off to them a week prior.

And now you will be known as the tarantula rescuer too. :)
Apparently they think I will take in anything! Someone dropped off a bearded dragon and they tried to get me to take him. Luckily I was able to put them in touch with someone experienced with reptiles.
