Now if i remeber correctly Kevlar is something DuPont produces other companys may but i only know of DuPont making Kevlar. I may be just stupid but I was told Kevlar is very similar to the no stick coating on a pan so is it some weird soft aloy or plastic :? ??? and about the gloves i use leather gloves but do not cup or close my hands while handling and the only reason I wear them is for the T's Safety this is because I tremble horrindously when I hold her bear handed ( I'm Not afraid of being bit :embarrassed: ) I'm afraid of droping her.
I think you're talking about Teflon. Kevlar is a synthetic fiber with similar properties to spider silk.

I was wonderin if any one new of the tarantulas mandible strength and if there fangs can Penetrate a lether work glove?
¨

They are really strong and can easily penetrate such a glove. I dont think you need any gloves if you are careful. I have never used gloves, exept thin latex gloves for protection of New world species hair!CHEERS!!!///Johan

I would also llike to know there strength but in Pounds Per Sqaure inch
I used to work in Landscape Construction and we delt with these HUGE rocks called Amor Stone , anyways they gave us these gloves made of Cevlar(check my spelling:8o ) Ive have never got hammerd by a T wareing these gloves but i assume cevlar could stop the fangs no matter the size..........i hope
But they work wonderds with aggresive T's and keep me safe ! But all in all i hardly use them !

Kevlar - is a fiberbased material. It RESISTS being torn VERY WELL, it IS USED IN bullet proof vests because of this property. the shock absorbing is that the fibers will pull on the entire vest.. and increase the area of the blow... the vest wearer STILL gets quite the bruise..
HOWEVER an Icepick is VERY effective at penetrating a bullet proof vest because it pushes the threads aside rather than trying to cut them.

SOOOOO

IMO - leather gloves WOULD decrease the depth of the bite considerably..
want proof .. grab a needle the size of a fang.. now grab a scrap piece of leather.. ( not Italian driving glove leather mind you ) try and push it through.. NOT EASY.. actually downright HARD.. the bite left over if there is any wouldn't be nearly at severe, depth wise.

Has there been correlations with bite depth and effects??
hmm line up the volunteers and the Poeci's !!!

Just to give you some points of reference... Isbister et al. (2003) report that one human subject was bitten through a fingernail. The spider in question was either Selenocosmia spp. or Phlogiellus spp. I also seem to recall some Arachnoboards anectodes about C. crawshayi chewing their way out of plastic deli cups. Leather gloves? Ha!
