Hey so… I just checked on my avicularia avicularia after their molt and they have completely lost their fangs and I don’t know what to do at this point. I don’t know their age and don’t know the gender as their molts don’t give the best answers. It could either be a male and it’s close to its time anyway, or a female and might get them back next molt. Why ideas?

This might be a silly question, but you know that their fangs are almost translucent right after they molt, don't you? Sometimes it's hard to see them until they start to harden, during which time they'll got from pink to red to black. Pics of the T would certainly help.

If it turns out that they did indeed lose the fangs (which would not be unheard of, by the way), then you'll need to give it special care to make sure it can eat until it molts again and hopefully regrows them.

A good chance it will die. It's hard feeding terrestrials bug soup, an arboreal will be even harder.

If it has no more fangs, you have options. These might, or might not, work. It will depend on tarantulas will to survive, and your determination.

if it doesnt make it, know its chances were small.

youll have to start adding some sort of low level container filled with MUSHED UP PREY. Thats to give a chance for it to try and feed itself.

they might go to the bowl and suck it up. They might not.

you can also put tarantula in a very tight catch cup with well positioned holes. Thats how youll get to put mushed up food in the mouth opening. And its a patience game. Because it will be a long process.

we need pictures to assess abdomen carapace ratio.

if youre super lucky, its fat and will remolt soon.

you need to make sure it has access to water. Its needs in hydration are currently high.

it knows its missing fangs. For sure. It will feel more vulnerable then usual.

i would do exactly what i suggested to you, if it happened to me. Because what else can you do.

it cant get to fully hard food, like an untouched cricket. The point of the fangs is to inject venom and stuff that liquifies the prey.

your job is to mimic that.

buy wax worms and mealworms. Mash them up a lot. Add some water.

good luck and keep us posted.

dont forget pictures.
