Hello everyone, I've recently got my first sling (0.5 inch DLS) and I'm super excited to see them grow from such a tiny size.

I've heard that these guys grow incredibly slowly but i would like to hear people's first hand experiences raising these slings.

I'm currently keeping them at 22.C with a moist corner and giving her cricket legs, i know if you feed them more and keep them hotter they grow faster, but I'm not in a hurry or anything.

Thanks Everyone!

Compared to my B emilia sling that took 6 months to moult from 2nd to 3rd moult and will be living in that 1oz pot forever I say they have decent growth rate.

It's T. albopilosus btw ;)

Brachypelma (with the exception of albiceps) and Tliltocatl spp. aren't that slow growing (I swear the people who say this have never raised Aphonopelma or Grammostola spp. from slings).

Growth rates are affected by a bunch of factors (not just temps/feeding) but you can reasonably expect it to hit 2 inches within a year or so.

I would say medium growth rate. I can only speak from experience with mine. At first, this one came as a 1/4" freebie back in 2010. A friend of mine decided to take the challenge to raise it to adulthood. This "friend" eventually got tired of it and dropped it off at the LPS sometime in 2017. Then it was 4-4.5". The LPS staff knew I loved Ts so they let me have her for free when I dropped by for crickets. Over a year later and it finally molted in my care and reached the 5" mark. So, around 7-8 years. Perhaps it wasn't kept at the best temperature or fed frequently, I don't know. I've heard that males can mature in less than 2 years if kept warm and fed constantly.

Anyways, if it was still alive after 7 years, it was obviously a female. The epigastric furrow was quite evident at that size.

Well i have adult Albopilosus female and she is 8 years old now.. I boght it as a very tiny sling and grow rate depends on many factors. First ofcourse is cup where she lives..small cup will be enogh so sling can easily find pray, which i preffer to be pre-killed or head smashed. other factor is ofcourse how many times you feed sling. I usually feed all my slings 2 times a week..wednesday and sunday in my case.Third factor is ofcourse air and peat humidity, albopilosus like more moist peat, but i always have one place in cup which is moist, other is dry, so sling can choose where to stay more time. In my expirience T.Albopilosus grow rate if everything is obsereved in a right way is medium. Something like P.Sazimai..but if you ask me, fantastic spider! :)

My two suspect males grew pretty fast. I bought them about a year ago at 1/2” and they are now both 3”. 8D6C6D19-5652-4DAA-A355-B7BF8E50A9C9.jpeg

They actually have a decent growth rate. I got mine as a 1/2in sling last year and now she's now about 2.25 in. Great eater and molts every 2 months or so.

I have B. hamorii and I'm surprised how fast she is growing. I've had her since July, she was 2" when I bought her. She's molted twice already she is around 3-3.5" now and definitely premolt again.

Fed mine gutloaded crickets, kept at 72F, took about 4 yr to reach 4” - it’s female

That is a quick growth rate! That would make you think they were males wouldn't it
Please don't say that!!!. I purchased mine at an inch or so in November and it's gotta be almost 3" now.
I'd say somewhat fast growth compared to the rest of my collection.
Still unsexed, kept at 74-75*, fed a variety of prey 1-2x/wk , moist deepish sub w/good ventilation.

My female T. albo (Nicaragua) grew from a 2nd instar sling to a 3-3,5" juvenile in almost exactly one year. ;)

After that, she basically stopped growing... Since then, it's about one moult/year.

My T. albo was about an inch when I received it in October (advertised as 3/4" but it molted during shipping) and is now a bit over 2", maybe 2.5" DLS fully spread out.

Well first thing congratulations on your T. albopilosus.

The next thing is have patience and enjoy raising your sling. Alot of the enjoyment is watching them grow and the different phases they go through.

T. albo's are also little bulldozers and will constantly move substrate around.

Not sure if you have a Honduran or Nicaraguan.

I have a female Honduran. I purchased her when she was 1 inch and exactly one year later she molted to 4 inches DLS so extremely slow growth rate??? I don't think so, not at all. I can't speak on Nicaraguan as I do not own one.

Growth rates are not always the same regardless of temps. All I do know is her main diet was mealworms and then dubia roaches and superworms. I only used crickets like a few times hardly enough to count.

Also my mystery T that I purchased Feb. 2020 just molted into what I know now is a T. albopilosus suspect male 3 inches now.

So 1 year for my female T. albo to go from 1 inch to 4 and my suspect male T. albo to go from .5 inches to 3 in 12.5 months. Hardly the same growth rate and kept identically. If the male molted into 3.5 then it would be same growth rate even being different genders. However it is only suspect male atm.
