Is there a support group for arachnojunkies?
I don't know if there is some kind of 12 step program for people who are addicted to buying T's but I think that I may need to join.
I spent about $500 on T's this month, I can't seem to justify spending money on anything else, but when it comes to T's, "ehh whats another $100 bucks if I can get a few more T's?"

Way overspending here...just crazy, I keep telling myself, "that's it until the expo in September, that's all I can afford, no more T's. Holy crap buy two get one free!!" :wall:

There is no cure. Count yourself lucky. I've spent about $1500-$2000 a month since last November.

The only support I could possibly lend comes from experience from being an ebay junkie - avoid BUY/SELL ads, don't even go to a thread that offers tarantulas and if u can, avoid LPS. Not that I think you'll buy a T from there but it might stir up - that's a nice T, think I'll look for one of those. Sometimes I want to look on ebay just to see if they have what I'm looking for and buying 1 KK turns into buying another 5, 10 or 20. X-D

Just remember, each T you buy is another mouth to feed. :)

Agreed. Self control and discipline will be your only salvation.

Lol, I know exactly how you feel.

Maybe you can start breeding them, It's very good for our hobby, help to reduce the demand for wild caught animals, and you can do a lot of interesting trade, good way to save a bit of money:D

Does pricing typically go down to for CB? Like if there are more P. metallica available, will they still be as expensive as they are now?

It's a question of availability and demand. The less they are available, the more expensive they are ; the bigger the demand is for them, the more expensive they are. Eventually as the captive breeding of the species progresses and there will be more available, or a new (less available at first) species appears gaining similar popularity and hype, the price will go down. It's just a question of time. Take for example Haplopelma lividum: for me, a better looking species than Poecilotheria metallica, but readily available at a lot cheaper price.

This IS the support group!

Having said that, I do think you need to spend more time studying tarantulas instead of buying them, and begin paying the rent and buying groceries again! :D

The tarantula enthusiast's lament:

Like those potato chips, you can't have just one!

I rely on my significant other to keep me in check. She does a great job of being a wonderful fiance and making sure I don't spend all the money on Ts. And, surprisingly she doesn't spend it on shoes herself (just a joke ladies. Chill.) She does however, have a hamster addiction... and she did buy a Ball Python at today's expo.... I see a new addiction forming already...

That's cool. She'll have plenty of feeders for her new snake collection. :D

Once your hooked.Theres no escape, antidote, cure, remedy or fix for what you
have. The only thing you can do is to learn to live with it.This is an addiction
that you have to get controll of.Once you get controll of it.You will still have
occasional relapses. But sooner or later you will learn how to beat this addiction
or at least controll it.

The lps can be bad for the addiction. Mine just offered me an H. lividum 4in., 3 1/2 in. H. mac and a 4in. C. fasciatum for $30. Who can pass that up? If anything I'll use them as trades or possibly some breeding attempts. I'm already getting 2 gbb's and a B. emilia tomorrow. I'll be up to 19 from 2 in around 3 months!! I'm not complaining though this is GRRRRREAT!!

I'm not getting the gbb's from them I ordered from Dave Grimm. It's not bad at all that you work at a lps as long you try and educate the others to at least some degree. This pet store has the H. mac on wood chips and I'm always trying to educate them b/c they seem interested.

well, now I feel completely sane....I came into the hobby 8 months ago and I only have 22 T's!! I am on my way to Arizona to the conference, so the number may be a little larger by the end of the month:D I don't have any really expensive T's the most I have spent for a single spider is $75 (a beautiful mature female smithi)...why, I am practically a "SPEND-THRIFT"
Whew, I am so glad to read this and know I haven't lost my mind!!!
