Squeaking Lump Of Peat Moss?

I'm wondering if there was a beetle grub stowed away in there. Some of them DO squeak, rather loudly in fact. I used to use a long twig to "fish" out grubs from holes in the ground when I was a kid so I could scare my brother with them, and I'd know which holes were occupied because if you poked something down the hole, the grub would squeak, and if you kept annoying it, it would clamp onto the twig with its mandibles and could be pulled out. The grub might have been in that particular peat moss clump, and burrowed out of it after being poked. I've also heard adult Tiger Beetles squeak, as well.
