Crawlspace, now a mature female. Looking beautiful as always. I have plans to find her a boyfriend after her next molt. She laid a phantom egg sac last spring so I know she's ready. IMG_20211002_233922421~2.jpg

Lazuli is looking quite handsome lately as well. Still a juvenile, but when he eventually matures I plan on sending him out for breeding. Gorgeous coloration. IMG_20210905_133901605~2.jpg

This little girl, Ignis (B. horrida) has so much personality. I picked her up at a reptile expo last month. Food obsessed! She ate that entire mealworm over the course of 2 days. IMG_20210903_191212287.jpg

Lucille (N. coloratovillosus) angry as always. IMG_20210912_171058018(1).jpg

Here's miss Anastasia (G. porteri). Unfortunately when I first got her last year she was very obese and has an ulcer on her abdomen, I'm assuming a drag injury. I've had her on a diet and thankfully it hasn't gotten any worse. I think that with time and patience, she'll eventually molt out of it. Very sweet girl, and one of my favorites. Sterling (AF P. regalis) decided to come out this evening. Every time I see her, I'm always in awe. I just can't get over how beautiful and massive she is. Her legspan is now nearly the size of my outstretched hand. She's very reclusive for the most part, but it's well worth the wait when I get a glimpse of her in the evening hours. She's almost ghostly looking. IMG_20211119_213613366.jpg

Here's Nightshade (subadult female P. miranda) munching on a cricket. IMG_20211119_211535733~2.jpg

Another photo of Lucille (N. coloratovillosus), my most cantankerous and angry spider! I think she's secretly plotting my demise. IMG_20211107_131122938~2.jpg

After hiding in her burrow for months, Ripley (AF C. marshalli) finally came out of her burrow after molting about 2 weeks ago, looking for a tasty snack. IMG_20211119_205259515~2.jpg

So what's been your experience with the maculata? Overall, I'm familiar with them as a whole, but I like hearing individual thoughts
They have a reputation for being defensive, but mine is actually very calm. I've never had any issues while doing maintenance or rehousings, not even a threat pose. Maybe mine is just a little unusual in that regard. Reclusive, but sometimes I catch her out exploring at night. They're heavy webbers. She's also not quite as food motivated as some of my other spiders. Overall, I think they're a nice species to have. When they do come out, it's well worth it. They're such beautiful animals.

Mowgli, 1.0 P. ornata is steadily gaining size and is extremely food motivated. Surprisingly he's almost always out on display, waiting for a cricket to magically fall from the sky. IMG_20220130_165126270.jpg

Even though it's still cold, here's a sign that spring is on the way! Maricopa (A. chalcodes) woke up from brumation just a few days ago, immediately drinking some water and searching for a meal. Her cuteness astounds me! IMG_20220218_201931843~2.jpg

Here's Mowgli, a juvenile male P. ornata after I moved him into his new enclosure. I just can't get over how handsome he is. Compared to my other juvenile Poecilotheria, this little guy is very bold and is always out on display at night. His sacmate, Kip, is much more shy and reclusive. Mowgli is also a more aggressive hunter and is growing faster. IMG_20220226_183035222~2.jpg

Captain Li Shang (C. schmidti) after a recent molt. His carapace is much larger and this was a huge jump in size. The photo doesn't really capture it, but he's a brilliant yellow/ orange/ gold color. 1447349856595553352.jpg
