I'm working on a new enclosure for my grammostola pulchripes sling for once it outgrows its deli cup, and was thinking of doing some sort of space station theme for it. (I've included my inspo pic)

I'm going to use the string to make the hexagon shapes (on the inside of the half-sphere and on the outside of the cube, so the T won't get tangled in it, of course), but I'm wondering if anyone has any other ideas that I could implement that won't just get lost once the substrate is added.

What’s the size of the T?

Right now it's a little over an inch, though I'm probably gonna wait a bit before rehoming it. Just getting the house ready in advance!

Not sure which method is working better for the dome, or if I should scrap both and do something else. The mod podge residue on the left one is really bad, but the one on the right is getting more and more complicated the more strings I add, and it's already starting to be wonky.... 20241018_203916.jpg 20241018_204648.jpg

I like the creativity, looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Now you've got me thinking what genus reminds me the most of aliens. Pokies come to mind first just cuz of how wild the markings are and the fact that they get to be a pretty decent size. Maybe aliens would be smaller and more parasitic though? Haha

Update on the space station enclosure!

The good:

These patterns are looking great! 20241110_122306.jpg 20241110_122320.jpg

The bad: My air holes look terrible. 😭

I tried the hot needle method, but they turned out really rough and had sharp edges, so I tried to sand them down. Probably predictably, now the acrylic is all scratched up. *sighs*

At least I'm learning things?

I like to be creative with some of my enclosures. I'd highly recommend going to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a soldering iron that comes with different attachments. The ventilation holes come out much cleaner and you can do a ton of different mods to your future enclosures.

Yeah, my roomy has a soldering iron, I just got impatient when I was at work and used a hot needle to poke the holes, and some leftover grip tape from a skateboard for sanding. NOT the best tools for the job, lol. 🤣
