Soggy, dead crix. Why?

the only way I keep crickets now (and that is rarely) is a deep rubbermaid container with no lid. I don't give them a water dish either, just fruit for hydration. I've had even adults live for weeks this way. For me, the roaches are so much easier, cleaner, and a cinch to breed

I have 6 hissing cockroaches that I bought at the two Pomona IRBA shows. I accidentally ended up with babies from the first 3, so I bought 3 more! They are easy to keep, and.... I kinda like them!!

I have two pregnant mamas now, so I'm well on my way to a hisser colony. Soon I'll have them in ALL different sizes for every different species, and hopefully, no more stinky smelly crix. Well, once in awhile, I like a blanced diet!!!

Can I just stress to those who havn't experienced it firsthand that dead, mushy crickets smell REALLY REALLY BAD. I was dumb enough to sniff the first mushy cricket that I removed from a T tank. It provoked a strong and highly unpleasant physiological reaction. I still gag at the memory of it. Never smell a dead cricket. Never.

Is that prob avoided if the crix are been bred? I mean, I breed them myself, is there as high a risk????

you know, I don't even know if the nematode problem is related to crickets, but it's possible they are vectors.
Kerry would be more qualified to answer that then me, but for me, my hatred of crickets, coupled by the possibility of them being related to the nematode problem, is enough of a reason for me to stay away from them ;)
I'd think if you raised them yourself, you'd be safer...but who knows?!
