I know soap can kill spiders

I've been reading threads on "T"s dying from various things or unknown causes. I'm curious to know if anyone washes their "T"s water dish with soap ,say by hand or in the dishwasher and have their been "T" deaths in that "T" household.

The concern I have is residual soap film on water dishes so I wash mine with hot water then rinse with filtered water then put them in the sun to for uv.

Sounds paranoid I know but its just a concern.

though the only T's I have that get a permanent water dish are arboreal, when I do clean their dish I use bleach water and a minute rinse is plenty to insure there is no residue left (thats the good thing about bleach).

Thats true, bleach does rinse well .
I never thought to use it with "T"s though.

Well at least they will die clean :D

J/K ;)

Anyway, I never use any soap. I just rince them with tap water when they fill it with substrate or excessive webbing

I just use a old toothbrush to scrub the film away. If there is a lot of crusty stuff, I soak the dish in straight lemon juice for about 15 minutes then wipe clean and rinse.

I use rubbing alcohol, once it evaporates the only byproduct is water. I use it to clean water dishes, tank glass, just about everything.

I use hot water and elbow grease. Everything I use for dishes is quite cheap so if one gets too funky like from a bolus rotting in it i'll just throw it out and replace.

I use soap and water... have only lost one T so far... and that was a sling that died in a molt the day after arriving... never had a water dish.

I'd like to see some actual documentation of the whole "everything kills Ts" thing, 'cause overall, I'm actually pretty sure that most people are unjustifiably paranoid. I bet most people here are more anal about what goes into their Ts cage than what goes into their own bodies.

just a thought.

I know I am paranoid, but I know alittle soap can go along way. With that being said, My neighbor sprayed his bushes with soapy water killing every invert that moved. It was 10% dish soap and I realize the direct contact thing but he drove me nuts with the obsessive spraying.

As far as even a light film of soap with "T"s, I wont chance it.

Warm water for spot cleaning glass, and during total cage cleanings, and dirty water-bowls, I use an eco-friendly dish soap thats base is coconut oil, I always rinse well. I have over 200 T's so I use this stuff allot, and also for my boa constrictor and sugar gliders. All my pets are thriving after years of using this soap.

I also use eco-friendly soap, then rinse for one minute, dry thoroughly, rinse for another minute, and dry again. It's a bit obsessive-compulsive I guess, but I've never had any issues.

I'm thinking true spiders are alittle more susceptible to soap film than "T"s but I'm not gonna test it.:)
