Just be patient, come spring the numbers of slings available generally skyrockets, cause now all those sacs produced all winter (in the northern areas) can finally be shipped, markets can get temporarily flooded and often prices reflect it. And we're only maybe 6 weeks away for TX.

Keep your eyes in the classifieds, both sections. One will give you lists from big dealers, the other will give you smaller sellers and breeders. Also many offer LAG even with 2 day shipping when conditions are good. Sign up for some of the larger dealers' mailing lists, often you can get "secret" sales.

I was about to offer a B. vagans sling too. I have two confirmed females already. I'm in Oklahoma too. Not far from you. The offer still stands. Here's the little cutie as of a couple days ago.

This thread turned out really well after all.

It's somewhat concerning and strange that a well-known vendor was willing to brown box though.

I think it is because it is not illegal to export or import non-CITES protected Ts in most European countries (with the exception of Italy). Here in Norway they changed the rules from 1st January this year. The explanation given was the need to ease the working conditions for the customs officers, so the parcels need to be marked that it contains a living tarantula and the latin name of the species. We now have a list of around 100 species that can be freely imported. I have no idea how they actually came up with those, because it does not make any sense. For example you are allowed to import an OBT or most Pokies without a permit, but E. pachypus is not on the list!?!

When it comes to importing CITES-protected species, all serious sellers and vendors in Europe will only sell CB ones. Most will not however be able to provide the needed documents to legally export and import them. Instead they mark the parcel to be containing a non-CITES protected species. In my experience customs officers do not open any parcels containing live and potentially dangerous tarantulas. I live in a non-EU country and have experienced a lot of parcels of books from EU countries being open and controlled by customs. However I have never experienced any parcel containing a tarantula being opened, and I have bought most of my Ts from various EU countries.

I've just purchased a 2" chromatopelma juvie and a 1/2" B. Vagans sling. I'm expecting them to a arrive in a bout a week. I feel pretty confident care. wise with the GBB but I have a lot of worries when it comes to the B. Vagans sling. I've never owned a sling and it's a little scary. I know that death of a sling is very common for many reason but I want to be able to do everything I can to keep this one alive and thriving. How difficult is the care for one of these slings? I know they like it dry but I hear slings require more humidity.

Please feel free to throw all your info at me (anecdotes and all. :))
This species, as a sling, doesn't require more humidity. Raise it dry, the only thing you need to be mindful is the size of abdomen. Small slings suffer from dehydration because their owners don't feed them enough due to lack of attention, it's not a mystery, nor difficult to do.

About ten dollars for the shipping upgrader. I didnt see an international option so im assuming the shipping price remains the same
That sounds unusually cheap. You can't order Ts from TarantulaCanada w/out ordering a minimum of $1000 worth of Ts due to customs and importing costs.

Who did you order from?

RADICALLY CHEAPER in EURO-LAND. It kills me to see the cost of Ts in Euro vs in the USA
Not to mention they have many species readily available and cheap over there that are nearly impossible to even locate stateside.

My concern for the op came from this, as a year (probably 2 by now) ago I pondered making a purchase from probably the same place. When I looked into it, its seemed all well and good to make the purchase, however upon closer inspection, it wasn't what it was cracked up to be, and I quickly abandoned the thought of an over seas purchase.
