Not all of ours are 50 shades of brown. Phlogius sp. blue, from Qld. Enjoy :) Hi to all my old friends!!!
Hey Steve! Glad to see you are still around! Hope all is well down under?

Nice to see a blue one from Aussie world!
Now if only I could safely own a blue-ringed octopus ;)

Yeah, that figures. Every other continent has a blue tarantula species, except for the European peninsula which doesn't count, so why not Australia?

Are these in the hobby yet?
Probably never will be for us here in the states. Australia rarely, rarely exports their wildlife. It's pretty well locked down in terms of flora and fauna imports/exports in order to preserve their unique biodiversity.

You never know, I’m enjoying my tarantulas again, one day I may put in for another export permit ;)

Hi Steve. Did you lose interest in tarantulas at some point? I remember that first export of Australian tarantulas you made. It was a monumental accomplishment for the tarantula keeping community.

I lost interest more in the people and pointless arguments, as well as vindictive taxonomists with no interest in furthering Theraphosidae knowledge. But I’ve since realised the only way to implement change, is not to ignore, but engage. It’s all about the spiders again for me, less about the people.......

What is THAT process like? As far as I was aware, the only animals that were legally exported from Australia for the pet trade were Australian lungfish from the two CITES compliant farms.

It’s a massive process. I exported tarantulas back in 2006,2007 and 2008 :) All permitted and legal, just involved a LOT of paperwork ;)

Man, I can only imagine it. I've done the research to import into the states and we are pretty lax on import/export in regards to flora and fauna when compared to Australia. You have to be really passionate to navigate that level of bureaucracy. As far as I'm concerned, you sir are saint and a scholar in the international arachnid hobby.

Edit: After digging into your posts from years back to find any more info on the imports, it appears you're a literal scholar. Color me impressed even more.

Hi,
No, Phlogius are about to be resurrected by Renan Castro, it’s a definite....he’s already released the paper early....
I imagine this could mean for big taxonomic changes coming to selenocosmia, selenotholus, and selenotypus. I can’t wait to see the ‘stralians revised and be cleared of some confusion 😁
