It's the internet. Everyone says what they want without any fear of repercussion aside from a scolding by someone they will likely never meet :p. Just the way it is lol.

I'm assuming the rest of you who cannot possibly understand why a high density of snakes around the home might freak someone out must spare every single ant, roach, centipede, scorpion, widow, etc. that enters the home - right? They were here before us, just doing their thing.
Fighting condescending nature with the same behavior typically does not lead to results either. Just sayin'.

I'd start with trying to give your family a positive experience. If you are comfortable or have a friend who is comfortable holding snakes, show them one.
I like this idea. It seems the most logical. Even if they just see you handling one without having anything bad happen to you it can change their perception.

Just leave em be. predators will arrive and they will eventually scatter after the females are no longer receptive.

"I'm assuming the rest of you who cannot possibly understand why a high density of snakes around the home might freak someone out..."

I'm going to blame that moon and the new brand of coffee for the following gibberish.

Yard full of garter snakes.
-Initial thought, that would be fantastic!
-Err, no. I'd be lying awake nights worrying about snakes getting squished on the road.
-On the positive side, that would attract predators!
-No. Then I'd be worrying about the Kraits and King cobras getting squished.
-But, would a nest of garters attract the snake predators? How would word get around?
-No you idiot. One hefty king could put away 20 a night. If it found out about the gold mine.
-What about those heron like birds? Too shy.
-What about the unsavory local people looking to add to the stew pot or even selling them?
-Naw. The big woof in the carport and my reputation would dissuade them.
-How many could a hefty krait put away each night? Nowhere near a king but it would give it the old college try.
-Now back to the original question of garters all over the yard. Build a snake fence to keep them off the road?
-I wonder what a snake fence that is able to restrict a king cobras movement would look like? 10 feet tall? Better make that 15 with nothing they could get a purchase on.
-But what about when we run out of garters? I'm not going to spend every waking moment hunting frogs to keep my garter eater satisfied.
-Kraits won't eat frogs.
-A king would put the kraits away too. That would be sad.
-The kraits would also put kraits away. That's sad too.
-What were we talking about?

When my father was a boy nobody PAID for a garter snake.
He caught his own-
Boys did in those days.

And they could just let them go.
In the snakes' native land...
And,by that time, the breeding season was over...
So the snakes in question

Did not "mass" again.

I guess boys don't catch their own anymore...
And cannot let them go.

Too bad.
They would have solved the "problem" posthaste.

It did work way back when.

Pity we have such ridiculous troubles today.
