We all know theraphosa species are the biggest tarantulas. But what about the smallest one? What is the smallest tarantula kept in captivity?

Pretty sure it's T. seladonia:

This doesn't answer your question, but its interesting. I stumbled across this article:

It mentions that the Spruce-Fir Moss Spider is endangered, and calls it the world's smallest tarantula (about the size of a BB). Several other non-scientific websites perpetuate this, including some government sites.

Best I can tell it's not in the family Theraphosidae, but it is a Mygalomorph. It's family was revised recently, but the original was also not Theraphosidae. It's also not kept (to my knowledge) in the hobby.

A.Paloma is smaller. At least my female Paloma’s are smaller than my female seladonia. But that’s anecdotal.

Edited to add: not sure if Aphonopelma paloma really counts as being in the hobby however…I don’t believe anyone has successfully bred them? I think they are all wild caught.

I'm pretty sure that the smallest available species in the hobby is a Cyriocosmus elegans and Cyriocosmus leetzi. They max out around 1.5" to 2" as mature adults.

My Pseudhapalopus sp. blue has to be one of the smallest.

Had it for 2.7 years and it's only 1 1/4 inches dls.
