Small invert that is affordable (Under $50), and interesting.

I'm getting one of these enclosures from a friend since he doesn't need it anymore.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exo-Terra-N...972?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a8b7b64fc

So, I'm curious what inverts you guys can think of would fair well and healthy in one of these small-ish enclosures?
I have 1.1k (yes, 1.1k) b. lateralis roaches coming, I have a mealworm colony, fruit fly colony, and a dubia colony. Plenty of feeders. And I have vegetables and extra food if you advise me to get a herbivore.

I'm willing to get any pet that's around $50, I want to have some unique inverts.
From crabs to frogs, shoot me anything that is easy to take care of (with some research of course)!

Thanks

Do you want inverts or animals WITH a backbone? If you're just wanting inverts, this isn't the right forum, but you need to decide whether you want something that's an invertebrate or a vertebrate. Frogs are vertebrates, while crabs are not. Care for inverts is going to be different than for vertebrates, usually a LOT different.

I suppose I am looking for vertebrates.
Mainly just looking for interesting 'animals' that fit my wants.

We need a bit more info than "cheap and easy vertebrate". And you don't know how difficult it is keeping from answering that in a non family friendly forum way.

I don't really know much about any vertebrates that would fit in there but I think a mantis would do good. Very interesting creatures, and fun to feed. I can't recommend a specific type to you as I've only kept wild caught from my area and I've no idea what those are, however I know there are lots to choose from if you buy ranging from difficult to keep to more beginner-style. And from what I'm seeing from a very quick search online at prices they're definitely under $50.00.

If you don't mind my asking, what did your friend have in there? Have you thought about putting whatever they had in there now?

Thanks for the idea, it seems cool! The Ghost mantis looks neat and I'll do some more research on them regarding care.
I believe he had a T. He cleaned it with water and then with rubbing alcohol then ran it through water then warm water and soap. I'll clean it again once I get it.

How is it difficult to keep from answering in a non friendly way?
Don't understand how someone can get angry/rude from a question. It's a broad question since I don't really know what to get and I want to find something to research on.
It's just a question.

Well, I'm looking for any beginner frog species that don't have such living requirements that are a bit tedious to care for.
Or if there is any type of lizard, gecko, chameleon or something like that that isn't that expensive.

Perhaps I can raise my price limit, I can most likely spend $70 or so.

Not even the tiniest frog could live happily in a nano

I wasn't angry or rude. I was making a joke - you want a vertebrate that's cheap and easy. I cannot really elaborate in a family friendly way...

"Non family forum friendly way" in response to "cheap and easy". Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Hmmmmm? ;)

8x8x8" is tiny for most vert pets plus you have all the accoutrements that would seem underutilized if you got the wrong thing. If it were me I would start with creating a habitat with dwarf plants or even just moss that would thrive under the light and potentially moist conditions. Or, since it's compatible with a mini pump and has vertical space...a small Dolomedes species matched with a small, replaceable fresh water prey.

Sorry, misunderstood.
I'm the worst guy to understand sarcasm and jokes on the internet.

Well, shame I can't really put anything that neat into one of these things.
I can always keep it as a temp. enclosure for a growing T, but I wish I could've used this for something better.

The mantises seemed cool, but they need a lot more height so I'm not going to bother. :(

Edit: What about millipedes? Would a small species of millipedes that grow like a max of 2-3" as a communal set up fair okay in one of these? (I'm guessing they won't)

I'm thinking two or three short millipedes would probably do fine if you added as much soil as you could and researched what they needed a lot so you did it right. :) And by soil I'm not actually talking dirt I'm talking peat moss.

Yeah since they eat decaying matter or whatnot.
Recommendations for millipede species? I would love to have a 2-3 "communal!

You could do just fine with ghost mantids in that space. I've raised pairs in similar.

Most US millipedes with a few exceptions would fit into that space. Go collect a pair an save your $50 ;)

as already stated its pretty small for a vert. this enclosure wasnt quite thought out by most buyers... the only thing besides viv iv seen this for was froglets. and T's... technically anythings possible with this size, but only for a short time.. but it could be a temp cage for T. or maybe if the pede's work out lmao... worst comes to worst use it for a mealworm breeder tank sense you already have a bunch of other feeders im sure your pets wont mind a variety lmao...

I'm sorry but it's up to you to decide. You want something interesting and yet interests vary person to person. This could turn into an impulse buy quite fast. I think my Chaco gold knee is interesting, while others do not. We can't suggest something. This cage is a tad bit too small for most spined animals. If we aren't talking about spined animals, then this is in the wrong part of the forum. Do lots of research before making a decision on anything and like said before, DONT buy something because it's interesting, buy it because you truly like it an it's species.

8x8x8 is pretty small. I keep an adult A. avic in an 8x8x12, but I think yours would be too short for that. If it were me I'd get a dwarf terrestrial T. like a Pumpkin Patch. It might be out of your price range though.

This is your choice. But anyway, I would ALWAYS research, I did research, and when a mantis was found in the backyard, i took it and cared for it. Now I can't just say I could suggest you in a friendly way since criticism, i would suggest, you get all supplies after you settled on a species. I would recommend you sell the terrarium to someone else and get a bigger setup. Now if you want to keep it, i recommend:
Mantis (No Giants, plenty of plants and misting (once), short lifespan, must breed for a generation.
Stick bugs (need brambles or grow one, you must do this years in advaced)
Thats it.
