Hey everyone, I was doing a little bit of reading on roaches and found that a lot of the time it seems people get more roaches than they actually need. So I was wondering what is the SLOWEST reproducing roach?

Macropanesthia is probably the slowest, though there are several very slow species in the family Corydiidae as well. That's in large part because they take so long to reach adulthood. Corydidarum seem to take their sweet time with breeding too, and even then litters are small. Polyphaga saussurei ooths take 4-6 months to hatch and that's after you wait about 3-4 years for the nymphs to reach adulthood. Macropanesthia take about 5 years to reach adulthood if I remember correctly and then it's several months before they give birth.

Hands down, Macropanesthia are the slowest breeders I know of, they can take 5 years or more to mature, and females typically give birth once a year, to relatively small litters.

Wow that's slow. Is there a correlation between size and reproductive rate?
