slings how do you keep yours

ive caried this on from my t blondi thread as to not to go off topic
so i keep the majority of my slings the same way . temps low to mid 80s
substrate damp, humidity high (even desert sp) , small enclosures pill vials, food jars ect for burrowers i offer a deepish peat based substrate, arboreal a small piece of bark too climb on, everything else a couple of cms of vermiculite and thats it. i feed as much as will be eaten daily, usually suitably sized crix, brachys i crush and offer adult crix if theyll be accepted,
how do you keep yours?

I keep all mine in Vials from Thorton Plastics
and i just use bigger Vials for burrowers

I keep mine similiarly but I think feeding daily is too often. Once a week is better in my opinion.

I guess it's really if the T wants to eat you can't overfeed a T IMO either they are hungry and eat or not and they won't

i keep all of mine in thorntons plastic as well,they are then kept in a hovabator incubator set at 82,and fed once a week.

i'm keepin mine in 3"x5"x3" potato salad containers i get from Safeway, and I just make them. I only get them when I know I'm guna get another one. Only got 1 aboreal. And, got a stick in for it. The other 2, I just dont bother puttin anything else in. Its just guna burrow somewhere anyway.

Dude, I just looked at yours. I wana go to Micheals now. And, what are the lids to those made of? Is it easy to put holes in?

I highly recommend the little cubes from the local craft store. They're super cheap and the slings seem to love them. Just make sure you have a sharp small drill bit to create some air holes. Also be sure to pick the cubes up from the bottom, not the top. I'm sure some out there know what i'm talking about.

What if my OBT has barricaded itself in its burrow? Just leave him in that? It has thrashed the opening of the burrow. web and all. and has a pile of peat moss over it. My AAvic is out in the open though. Parahybana is too.

yeah the key to drilling them is slow and low pressure...also i cut pieces of window screen to cover the hole i drilled to prevent escapees....i only drill one hole per cube for the small sling thats all they need....also when you go buy them....select which one have the tightest fitting lids also or like irish said they will come off...oh yeah i use hot glue to hold the screen in place on the top lid.

Generally you want to leave a completely barricaded T well alone. It's probably done it for a good reason and it'll come out when it's good and ready, just have the new enclosure prepped for when it does.

It's not like a nicer enclosure is going to make your substrate any more transparent anyway. Whether it's dug in in the old enclosure or the new enclosure you're not going to see it any more easily.

I keep my slings in 3.5 oz portion cups with some coco fiber or peat moss. I feed them twice a week with pieces of mealworms and keep them at around 75-85. When they get bigger i go to walmart and pick up containers from the food storage. I keep them damp but not wet and mist only when needed.

I start my slings in vials with very small holes drilled in the top 1/4 of the vial. The arboreals get taller vials with fuzzy sticks for playing Tarzan. As they grow, they get bigger vials and then graduate to deli cups. I use coco fiber and moss mixed depending on the bug. I watch the moisture carefully and feed on an average of twice a week, depending on the critter. I do keep a log on each tarantula so I can note any changes and watch for trends. Been doing it this way for 10 plus years with very little fallout. The most slings I have had at one time is 12, so I have time to spend on them.

Just guna wait cuz, IMO, for as much room as it uses, its just a little to big of a container for it. At least to me it is. And, 2moro, am going to Michaels, and look for the kind of containers Cody has. And, if can find them, guna do what you said, and just have it ready for when he duz come out. My others are out anyway, and they aint webbed, or nothin. So, it aint messin up much. Plus, I got 2 more comin next week, too.

jng.....to for warn you.....theres too much cool stuff in micheals so unless you want to spend amillion dollars id go with relitivly empty pockets...hhahah....also the small cubes i think are 25 cents...at least here they are...and there are other cubes as well...every time i go to micheals i buy them out like tomorrow i think im going to get more...and also prolly going to buy some stuff to cast a few things.....roaches....a dead snake....ect...ect but good luck and post a pic when you get them set up...also if anyone has any questions about drilling them and attaching screen to the lid shoot me a PM .....oh yeah by the way....if you go to petsmart....look for "hermit crab corkbark" its 3.00 dollars for 2 pieces and works perfect for these cube....at least the larger ones...there in plastic bags at petsmart and with a "pet perks card" its like a dollar 25 for 2 pieces!

if you bought it online it should come in a small deli container?what ever it comes in keep it in untill it outgrows it so as soon as it is less then 2x its size transfer it to something slightly bigger like a kritter keeper.past experience i got another t well my mom did and we put it in a kritter keeper right away and the air vents were large. the next day i cant find the 1/4 inch and never did =( it was a chaco.
