Hi there, first post in all this time I've been on. Hopefully I can get a bit of perspective on some issues I'm having with a pair of slings I have.
First off is my Eucratoscelus pachypus slings. Skinny and food shy. Both with scavenging opportunities and red runner nymphs. It doesn't use the starter burrow, and is fairly lethargic. In comparison to the other E. pachypus who are voracious little things, it seems a little off.
Secondly is a Pelinobius muticus sling acting similarly. Refusing to use it's starter burrow, and a bit lethargic. Will stridulate and mouth prey items occasionally, but won't eat them. Not as worried given that this little baboon looks well fed. Just a little worrying compared to it's sibling who is actively hunting and burrowing. And is very rarely above ground.

That one sounds weak for some reason/s. Hard to say.
Sounds like your other one is fat

Ime most of my issues with slings have been a result of substrate depth and giving too much space. I lost a P muticus from putting it in a container wayyy too large. Can you attach some pictures?

Pics might help. :pics: :pigeon:

Lucky you to have Eucratoscelus pachypus! Such a lovely tarantula. Its on my fantasy list.

pictures of your enclosures will help us see if something is off. Even if both are housed the same, one of them might not be thriving. That or its sick. I wish for you its just a substrate thing. Something you can fix.

try small prekilled. Did you try that? I know you said scavanging opportunities. So i gather thats prekilled. Maybe switch up what you are offering. Pinhead crickets, a wax worm… cut piece of mealworm.

with photos of slings we will also be able to see what skinny means to you.

maybe its in premolt even if its skinny.
