Hello, i've had this female b. boehmei for almost 6 years now and for the las 2 moults she's had these silver streaks on her legs. Is this normal? couldn't find any threads talking about this or maybe i just suck at googling. Anyway.. is my T fine or is she a T3000 in disguise? 2024-12-09 13.31.36.jpg

as the spiders grow larger these areas where the exosceleton is not covered by pubescense or setae grow larger too, they are not silver just reflective

Look at pictures of freshly molted B auratum, hamorii, smithi, baumgarteni, they all have different colored setae on the knees/patellae. I'll be learning a new word out of this eventually but it's a more obvious marking when they are fresh.

Here is the revision paper. It won't let me copy and paste the text but my goodness I should have paid more attention to this....there are even pantone colors!!?!? What you've never tried to color match an exuvia to paint your house?

It was just referred to as a flame-shape area which I found to be a little disappointing, I feel like that deserves a cool word. Proximal dorsomedial is a location description that anything with anatomical structure can be used to locate.

Guess I got too excited and clipped boehmei...you'll have to look for your own paint colors 😂

(is pantone still proprietary?)

yea, i am pretty sure these are essentially dedicated strech zones for the exosceleton so the rest of the exosceleton can be covered uniformly in hydrophobic pubescence

not sure if they can actually be used for species idenification, but there were some attemps when it comes to the differences between B. hamorii and B. smithi

I think I've seen the patellae flame pattern referred to as chevrons before too, but I'm not quite sure.
