Dear All,

I have a pair of adult Silloquofera grandis.

They’ve taken a very proactive approach to reproduction and layed many ova, but I have had to gently remove these from the soil they were deposited in, which became far too soggy in an accident with a bramble jar.

I have prepared a separate container with ample room and deep substrate, but wonder how you’d suggest I insert them into the soil. Any particular direction or depth? On the surface?

Any advice appreciated.

Bury the eggs about 5–7 cm deep in the substrate. This mimics their natural egg-laying behavior.
Place the eggs horizontally if possible, as this is how they are typically laid by the females. However, if unsure, they can still hatch successfully as long as conditions are optimal.
Use a well-draining mix such as cocofibre, topsoil, or a sand mix to maintain proper moisture without becoming waterlogged.
Keep the substrate slightly damp (not soggy) and maintain a humidity level of 70-85% with temperatures around 24–28°C for successful incubation.
The eggs should hatch in about 2.5–3 months under these conditions
