I have what I believe is an adult male sicarius thomisoides. I found someone else who has an adult female and want to send my male to them for breeding. Both of us haven’t bred this species before, but not many have. I want to know from those of you who have bred sicarius species if there are any tips you have. I want to know if they do any foreplay and if they are pretty receptive. I talked to another successful breeder and he said that the female should be well fed, keep an eye on them and to take the male out if he’s not interested. This advice seems to be universal for spiders, and humans maybe. I also have pictures of my specimen and a recent molt that I want to add here to be certain that I have a male.

Had a sicarius hahni in 2016. My ex-friend killed it when I left it in his care for the winter. He kept it in his garage and never bothered to check if she was okay. She was a picky eater for me, and only wanted large terrestrial prey. I only ever saw mine eat twice, both were dolomedes tenebrosus adult males.

What does dolomedes have to do with sicarius? That sucks what happened with your hahni. Didn’t bother to check on it once? Wow.

I was experimenting on foods and I struck a bit of luck finding some big driver's license-sized tenebrosus males in a neighbors wood-pile at night. I brought them home, and put both of them in her tank. She killed and ate both. Her hunting strategy was to wait for the vibrations of the running prey to near, then she would stealthily hover over the prey for a few seconds, and as soon as the prey moved even an inch, she would descend on the victim, and death would occur near instantaneously.

I see, intersting.

But yeah, He never once bothered to check on her. He even knew how special she was to me. He just let her die alone in the cold. I wish I could have found somebody better to care for her at the time. Now I can't even get her without making an expedition to Namibia myself. :(

Agreed with keeping the female well fed, but overall males and females play nicely together. You can leave them together for a couple days and then pull the male.

Thanks! The person told me that it took 14 months for a sac to be produced too. Wow!

I admit I don't know if that was the case with mine, they were WC, but I know that my male still successfully paired with a couple of the females. They produced sacs at a pretty good rate, but they may have been using stored up sperm. I think how heavily you feed them can drastically shorten that time since they're originally from pretty inhospitable areas where prey comes rarely.
