She was a rescue (mom was a stray) so no clue what her background is.
Looking at some pics though I'm definitely seeing the resemblance! Especially how shiny she is as well as her eyes and face and ear shapes.
Since her mom was a stray she's probably a mix of a lot of things but it would definitely be interesting to get a dna test done.

Our boys, getting older now (hopefully a good long time left for them still). They're brothers but look very different, the first (one with the wee eyes) has limited eyesight and has always been skinny, the second looks the same as he has for the past ten years, & is considerably broader. Both sweethearts, very docile felines... greedy sods tho haha.

My newest addition. He has only been here a couple of hours. Hiding behind the couch as I type this but should come around soon.

Former "owners" abandoned him and he was found emaciated and sad.

Once he settles in he should be okay. He was friendly even when he was outside in a yard. Within 10 minutes of first meeting he let me pet him and everything.

He's only been here for about 12 hours now. He's been hiding the whole time after that picture.

I know it takes them time to adjust but it's hard not trying to pet him.

I am sure he will come around in his own time.

Last step is to book a neutering appointment.

Sometimes a little treat like canned tuna can get the kitty senses on. If its lured its because it wants the treat hahaha. So, its not like you went looking for it. It might even feel affectionate.

when i used to have cats, and they were hiding, all i had to do was open a can of anything hahaha.

He hasn't eaten anything, even food left in front of him. He did pee in the litter box though, so he does know what that is.

Update!

He finally ate some food and hung out for about 30 mins for pets and love. I think in (short) time he is going to be just fine!

Here are some pictures from an hour ago!

@darkness975 Long article a long time ago explained. Paraphrased from what I recall: Cats create a mental comfort zone in their minds. Their senses, visual, scents, tactile etc. on out to the day to day activity of other animals including people contribute to the comfort zone and continually reinforce it. The older the cat, the less adaptable to changes and alterations of the comfort zone. And every cat is different in how it adapts to a change of the environment.

The article then went into a lengthy explanation of cats being territorial and you get the picture, A litter box is a very common familiar for readaptation.
But one example: Eating is not and requires the mental comfort zone to be reprogrammed. Hunting is basal instinctive, but eating killed prey requires the prey to get dragged away to it's safe comfort zone.

So it is a study for you. Observing the cat's reprogramming in progress and if possibly noticing it picking up on similar familiarities it recognizes or is similar to the comfort zones it knows.

The article was originally written by a bio student who noticed elderly cats that were displaced noticed a similar common comfort zone, an elderly woman calmly sitting in a chair for extended periods of time. A displaced cat finding that familiar similar comfort zone would quickly relate to and park on the elderly woman's lap. The student went around borrowing cats and placed them in a room with an elderly woman in a chair. The comfort zone re-adaptation was so predictable she was able to chart it using standard scientific methodology.

Well I can say this one definitely recognizes that I am not evil like whatever was dealt with in the past. But nevertheless the cautiousness and skittishness is still there for now.

In time the permanence of this new life will be confirmed in the feline mind.
