Should I rescue a Cobalt?

Hi,

In my local pet shop is a Cobalt Blue between 2 1/2" and 3". It has been there for several months at least, priced at $39. Every time I see it, it is all hunched up on the floor by the edge of the glass. I don't think it is happy in it's current environment, sitting on a very thin layer of sand. Other than that she is all there, and does move when disturbed.

Today I asked the owner if she would give me a discount price on it. She thought for a moment and said $30. Would this be a good price?

Thanks,

Dave

I WOULD... in a hot second! Do you currently have one? They are SO BEAUTIFUL... and if she's not happy...

Maybe you shouldn't listen to me... I rescue EVERY darn T that I see!

Can someone with a tougher hide please answer this?

Hi Miz,

I don't have a Cobalt yet. I just have a Sunburst Baboon, a Curly, a Pinktoe and a Rosehair.

I was actually wondering if $30 is a good price. Still... Seeing it there ALWAYS in defense/reclusive/scared mode makes me want to save it. :)

Mine was $49.99 (adult fe) last year. I think it's a good price if you factor in that you don't have to pay shipping, you don't have to wait three days, you already "know" her, she's a girl.... she would be a great additon to your collection.... she's stressed and if a newbie buys her she will die...

BUY HER... IF YOU DON'T I WILL!!!!!

(Lancaster isn't too far for me to drive buddy, and if I hurry, I can beat you to her!!!);)

Well, if you're serious, I'd happily show you in to make the rescue and get you the "bargain" price. I'm not so sure my wife is ready for #5 T!

No, it's not a Petco. But from what I've been reading about what Petco doesn't know about Ts, and the bargains some seem to get I wish we had a Petco here!

I just got a Cobalt and a Scorp in a deal for $25 . But they wanted $25 just for the cobalt. So $30 isnt bad. But to be honest I had no clue how mean these were .. oh yeah I read and had people tell me. But she ( to be honest ) scares the crap outta me! But once I had her in her new home .. I wouldnt do without her. Amazing and Beautiful, no T ive ever had so far compares. Just remember these arent anything to handle and practice in your mind how your going to transfer her to her new home and in no time you'll have a mean new T that you can admire at home not in some nasty old pet store :)

I would do it for sure also! When I was in super pet they didnt even have to tell me the price of the Usambara i was immediately like "I'll take it" and turned out the price was very good! $29.99 for the tarantula the tank and corkbark already in the tank with waterdish too. Tank alone was $14.99 corkbark is pretty expensive here so i would say for the size of the piece it woulda been about $8 waterdish $1 and then that leaves $6 for the tarantula and it was about 2 1/2" Usambara Orange. Save the poor Cobalt especially since its on sand. HOw horrible.

peace

Even if it is from petco, Every T deserves a loving home, you said it's not from a petco, but even if it was, it deservesa loving home, just because it wound up in a dump like petco doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it, all T's deserve something. That's all, and $30 is a good deal get it, the wife will get over it!! :):):):) haha, just kidding!

Go for it! I would never personally own a Cobalt, but that's only because I like T's I can play with. My Boy and I keep talking eachother into more T's. The Red Phase Gramm. Rosea (that we think was mis-labeled at the pet store) he just had to have. And I was dying for the Avic. Avic. I bought today. (Up to nine...)

If the wife doesn't like it, tell her not to worry, it'll probably always be in a burrow! :D

hello
Petco is a buisness chain if people stop buyin t's from them we wouldnt have to worry about awful conditions they put them in once a tarantula is sold they go and buy 2 more for the price you jus bought that one for trust me i worked at a petco so instead of you saving one you are putting 2 more into terrible situations.-jason

I am not disagreeing with you, but do you think it is even possible for us to stop a bussiness like petco, there are millions of tarantula keepers out there, who don't even know of petcos evils, i totally agree that petco sucks, but the one sale that they make or don't make won't make a big impact on them, if everyone everywhere stopped buying T's from petco it would work, but theres no way that can happen, sad but true. There's no stopping them. But it's up to the indivudal, some people buy from there, and some people don't, i've only bought 2 T's from there ever, my very first T and a redphase G. rosea because i just had to have it, but you know, if someone ones something and it's avaliable at petco, they will get it regardless. I totally agree though, petco blows, But sadly can't be stopped.

Okay, I'm going to pick up the little beast this morning. :)

Actually the wife was pretty "I don't mind"-ish about it. I'll take some pics when I get it home.

Thanks for the input!

When I went to pick up this H. lividum, I realized that she was a bit bigger than I had estimated based on her scrunched up look.

I measured her when I got her home, and her legspan is over 4" measured in the position she sits in the following pics! Man, she's a beauty! After a VERY careful transfer process, I took these shots:

Breathtaking! Now aren't you glad you saved that beautiful creature from certain death by neglect? If you decide you made the wrong decision, p.m. ME!!:D

Tell your wife she's :D AWESOME:D and give her a big 8 legged hug, she deserves it!

PS, what type of light did you use for those photos? The blue just POPS!

Hi Miz,

Yeah, I'm glad I got it. I got a good measurement yesterday, and it is 4 1/2"!

Other than the little "escape" escapade Saturday morning, it/she/he has been doing okay. Seems to adapt slowly, but it is adapting, and eating well. :)

The top photo is sunlight, and the bottom is a flash with no direct lighting.
