I'm idly wondering when @Clareesi is going to wise up to the subversive underground avian agenda to take over and rule the entire roost. Anyone care to place bets? ... "Oh I'd love to go out to that show and dinner! Let me ask Honks if...":D

Such a handsome creature! Can’t wait to see how the feathers fill in:)

It’s unfortunate that humans keep animals only to expect them to do what they want them to. And when they don’t “cooperate” and be model slaves, they are seen as useless. Such arrogance!

This is exactly how my house functions. Paco, the BG macaw is the ring leader. He dictates all things.

So many people shouldn't have parrots at all -- they are a long term commitment and require excellent care and lots of time out of the cage -- glad you rescued Honks.

I have a rescue Congo African Grey parrot Snickers (had him 22 years now) but I know when the time comes (he is scheduled to go to a parrot sanctuary at my passing), he will grieve. I almost forget how terrified and bitey he was when I first got him. You couldn't even walk past him holding something in your hands lest he risk hurting himself by flinging himself on the floor. He seems so happy, normal and cuddly now, I almost forget his previous life and all his bad experiences in previous homes. I hope he's forgotten it too, but sort of doubt it (strangers upset him greatly). :(

Continued good luck with Honks! Glad you two found each other!!!

For anyone following for an update on honks:

Feathers are transitioning. That's going to be a long process and a lot of her new ones are still stress banded. For those who dont know parrots/birds feathers and how they grow offer a lot of insight into the birds overall health both physical and mental. Stress banding is when feathers develop black or white bands around them, often toward the end. This can be because the animal was housed incorrectly, has a pathological condition like a virus, or is malnourished. Honks definitely was housed wrong and fed wrong so I suspected her feathers to develop banding through this molt, vet did too.

Other than that her weight is almost spot on now so shes done phenomenal on the new diet. Still learning to love new fruits and veggies though.

Came home today and opened her cage as I often do and for the first time with excitement she tried to fly out of her cage to me. But she still can fly soooooo that wasnt good. Shes fine though and has been snuggling with me since.

Once shes out of the cage shes like a puppy who doesnt want me to leave and just follows me everywhere.

Shes definitely going to be a very beloved flock member for decades to come. Snapchat-1539802215.jpg
