Scorps in Indiana?

Ok so I was poking around on line and had no luck finding any lists of scorpions that could be found in Indiana. What I did find was a couple of spiders in Indiana that can also be found in places typically inhabitted by C. vitattus.

My question is, with the spiders being in both areas, could / would vitattus (or any other scorp for that matter), be found in bothe areas as well?

I'm wondering because I may be taking a trip out the Indiana next month and If there are in fact any scorps there, I'd like to do a whole bunch of hunting.

My guess is that they would be very rare, only in some areas very small, and in the southern tip.

No, none. The nearest scorps are in TN. I think their may be some in the southern tip of IL though.

What part of Indy are you visiting?
It's currently a sheet of ice and I doubt it will be in the 50-60 range in a month. Brown County is a great bug hunting place, it's about 1-1.5 hrs south of me.

EDIT:
Now that you mention it I believe I have heard some in the tip but VERY rare. You'd have better luck catching one in a pond somewhere

Should be able to find V.carolinianus in the far Southeastern part of Kentucky and, as stated, C.vittatus in southern Illinois.

my father claims he has found some scorps in southern ohio.i didn't argue,but have been in those woods my whole life and had never seen one

I've had rove beetles, earwigs and pseudoscorpions all described as "scorpions." And there is rarely any point in arguing, since people are sure of what they have seen. I've had people see a rattle on a milksnake when it was in plain view in a bucket. Even once I had picked it up, they seemed skeptical that it wasn't a rattler.

That being said, amid all of the bogus reports, there is occasionally a really neat find .. so it pays not to immediately dismiss all of these things out of hand.

Ah so I stike out again... I swear I need to get back down to Florida or Mexico! To be honest I was kinda expecting that Fisher Indiana would be too far north. But hey, at least I know for sure. Thanks for the help guys!

While I'm here though, anyone know of anything else I may be able to find out there... especially when it warms up?

I found one in mid-southern Illinois near Springfield.

That's about the same latitude as souther Indiana, yes?

We have V. carolinensis into central KY, although they are rare. Like has been mentioned beware of any locals telling you there are scorps about. When the locals here in KY talk about scorpions they are usually talking about young skinks. The ones with the bright blue tails, they think they can sting you!
