scorpions in Mexico

Hi all.
i found something interesting while researching for one of my projects.
According to the this site, Mexico has the highest mortality from scorpion stings.(2004).
i know there are some buthidae in Mexico such as Centruroides but i didnt expect they had the highest rate.
so now I'm wondering what kind of scorpions there cause that?
84 deaths is not kidding but I really understand eypt in the 2nd..

p.s i know the record cannot be accurate ,but you get the idea..

Centruroides noxius, Centruroides infamatus, Centruroides suffusus to name a few....


PS. When dealing with these mortality rates, also take into consideration a) healthcare in a country, the farther away from medical help, the larger the risk, b) pre-existing medical conditions etc etc. Mexico is not the richest country and very large with a lot of rural areas..

By my accounting, C.limpidus and C.elegans finish the list.

very large with a lot of rural areas..

Along with the habits of the scorpions involved (do well in human occupied areas) the "very large" bit is the key to the statistic. After all, how many middle eastern/northern African countries can fit into the Mexican borders? Egypt is half the size, half the population. That plus all the factors you've already mentioned.

I actually did a horrible infographic image in second year about this very thing Koh lol. I obviously didn't do it by species, that might have been a bit tooo hard.

Let me see if I can dig it out.
I even have the original documents that I found to base the information on, sadly its all in spanish.
