I remember in school when I was 6-7 (1995-96) there was a scorpion that was kind of redish in color and it crawled away from a tree in the middle of a play area and my friend ran to it and stomped on it 
(it was definitely a good thing for my sake that it didn't live long enough for me to go over there and possibly try to touch it!) . I wonder what species or family of species it could have belonged to? It was the only wild one I ever saw. I live in Wichita, Kansas now.
