scorpion tank smells like UGHHHHHHHH

its been over a month since ive had my scorpion.

and the soil in the tank smells TERRIBLE. like rotting flesh or something lol.

there are a few dead crickets with body parts missing. and my scorpion is inactive AS USUAL



how often do u think i should change the soil along with the cricket remains? and do scorpions smell that rotting stuff bc i feel sorry for it right now lol

You need to remove the remains of the food within 24 hours of each feeding. Otherwise you will get some unwanted little bugs, fungus growth, and bad smell. I dont know what you are using for soil but i use eco-earth for all of mine.

hmm yeah what substrate you use might be the issue, or the rotting food. MY emps tank just smells like.. i dont know, a humid jungle? haha

I used soil from my frontyard and placed some grass. but it stinks.................................

Im not expert but i feel like that might be why it stinks, soil outside has who knows what in it. ive always used coco fiber for my emp, and it never stinks. But what you should use depends on what kind of scorp you have. again im not an expert but i feel like soil from outside isnt the right thing to use.

Yeah as said remove the leftovers within 24hrs after feeding, cocofiber or eco-earth substrate works well for Emps.

Dead scorpions will smell after a while. I hope that isn't it, but a poke or two wouldn't hurt.

I had that smell when I turned up the eco earth one time. Although it was soaked, and rotting coco fiber was probably the cause.

Remove the crickets. THey will attract mites.

Yes it could be a dead scorp but definitely remove any leftover cricket immediately. Do not use soil or grass from outside as it might have unwanted fungi, parasites, pesticides.

What kind of scorpion(s) do you have? I've never changed the soil in my P. imperator tanks, but they are colonized with isopods who do a tremendous cleanup job.
