H. hottentotta finally hitting 5th instar after almost 275 days since the last molt and 49 days of fasting.

That is a Buthus species.

Buthus species and immature Androctonus amoreuxi are commonly sold as Buthacus occidentalis (Egyptian Gold Scorpion) in the U.S.

First off, Buthacus occidentalis is endemic to Mauritania (northwest Africa) and do not inhabit Egypt (northeast Africa). Also B. occidentalis probably has been never been in the U.S. hobby.

Buyers beware: if you purchase a B. occidentalis in the U.S. you are really buying a Buthus sp. or a immature A. amoreuxi.


The real Buthacus occidentalis. Please note the smoothness of the carapace and mesosoma and lack of pigmentation (typical of Buthacus):

After 171 days and 29 days of fasting my P. transvaalicus finally started molting.
