I don't know why you'd be surprised by this. Dog kibble, turtle and fish pellets are full of animal protein. Logical that the scorp would dine on these, really.
em no it’s not… scorpions eat live prey. They are not scavengers and by instinct would not normally eat something if it shows signs of being deceased or is not moving. They find prey by sensing movements. So there is absolutely nothing logical about a scorpion eating dog biscuits or fish food pellets. The only likely cause for this would be that he/she was seeking moisture.

There are no absolutes in animal behavior. There will always be off the scale anomalies. My mother had a rusted beat up old wind up alarm clock on display given to her by a fisherman who found it in the belly of a shark, an extreme obligate predator.

While this is a old thread, I saw a very strange video of a guy feeding a centipede cat food on Facebook. Crazy creatures.

This is an old post but yes I agree it was looking for moisture.

I always provide water dishes for all my scorpions (desert or rainforest).

I have seen all of my specimens drink from a dish at some point.

Scorpions readily scavenge, especially at younger instars. A lot of people feed things like mealworms prekilled to prevent them from burrowing away before they're eaten, and I feed all my younger scorpions segments of mealworms or cricket legs if I don't have appropriate sized feeders. That's part of what makes them so much easier to keep than spiders IMO, especially jumping spiders which are highly visual hunters and are more attracted to movement.

Feeding mealworm segment and cricket leg ^ and I don't have any pics but my adult Hottentotta hottentotta seems to prefer eating prekilled to live crickets, and just today I fed my juvenile Hadrurus a prekilled mealworm.

jumping spiders don’t scavenge but tarantulas do. I like scorpions but still don’t know enough about the care or money right now to get any I had a emp once . The whole micosis thing sounds scary 😱. And if they do well room temperature.. afs may be easy ?
That’s not something I have to worry about with tarantulas.

Get an adult H. arizonensis. Room temps are fine. No mycosis as long as you keep it properly.

Yeah I considered one gotta wait til I have money for sand and clay etc . I did some research once, but I didn’t see anything I was 100% sure on . Supposedly, they have molting problems ?

In captivity it is hard to get them to molt successfully. It can be done and has been done (intentionally and accidentally) but you're better off just getting an adult for your first go around. They are long lived.
