Thank you Scolopendra for showing me/us that! Very interesting! Another behavior that gives me even more respect and admiration for these animals. In other words.....that's awesome!

Wow...wonder what else they eat?

It also makes me wonder about 'pede intelligence. How exactly did a mostly terrestrial centipede learn that there were tasty things on the ceiling of a cave?

Thanks for the link Scolopendra! Thats a really interesting atricle. I love observational science papers, not too many of them are written nowadays.

That's awsome. I've read articles before about a researcher observing one inside a tent capturing flying insects in this matter while hanging from the tent ceiling.

That gives new meaning to the phrase "don't let the bed bugs bite".

I'm looking forward to the new Attenborough series even more now, look here , there is a very brief mention that they filmed Scolopendra eating bats in caves. Knowing the standard of previous series, it should be great. It's being shown in the UK this Autumn, and the DVD and book are available soon.

Cheers

This was my favorite part of the article:
"A 120 mm centipede consumed a large chunk of flesh from a human corpse (Harada et al. 1999)".

That was a really interesting text... I wouldnt like to walk into a cave and have some s.gigantea falling on my head, hehe!!!! It is really interesting to see how many things 'pedes can prey on, its just surprising!!!! They could probably prey on hamsters, %"/$% do i hate those :)
