Starting a thread for the excessive amounts of tarantula pictures I take. First off- two new babies arrived today! 2 inch Theraphosa apophysis in the first pic and 1/4 inch Bumba horrida in the second. The Bumba horrida made a valiant escape attempt while rehousing and overall seems very fast and skittish for now at least.

Throckmorton sighting! Gonna try to document how often I see my H. chilensis here to figure out how long they tend to disappear for but it’s usually about 3 months at a time, followed by an active period of about a week before they go underground again

So while I completely failed at writing up regular updates on my H. chilensis over the past year+ on this thread, she’s been above ground almost constantly since last year and at this point I’m assuming must be female since she doesn’t look fully grown and still hasn’t matured after 4 years in my care. Just discovered she molted sometime in the past few days 😍

Got an Aphonopelma hentzi sling last month (required the exotic pet store guy to dig through its vial for 10 minutes first to make sure it was even there and alive it’s so tiny 😍) and after no sign of it since coming home it has now built a visible burrow!

Actually, the common name of the hentzi is Missouri Tarantula,Texas brown tarantula, and Oklahoma tarantula, the Texas tan is an Aphonapelma anax.

Thank you! I don’t tend to pay attention to common names and that’s just what it was labeled as at the store, guess it’s time to update my label. Once the sling is older is there a way to confirm it’s A. hentzi and not actually A. anax?

Not much. I do know that A. Anax is a little darker (or the other way around?) but if your not sure, once it gets older you can post a pic in the tarantula identification forum

IMG_1154.jpeg Been guessing that my fastest growing of 4 K. brunnipes was male and now she has an egg sac that she’s clinging to so deep into her burrow that I’ll never get it out without rehousing her 🥲
