My current tank of millies has gotten roaches in it and I'm setting up a new tank for my guys with a better sealed screen lid. I'm trying to find safe store bought soil (in the United States) for my tank rebuild. I have found some "Jiffy" Natural and organic Seed starting mix. It says it contains "50-60% sphagnum peat moss, vermiculite, coir pith, and lime for PH balance." Is the vermiculite and lime safe for the millies? I have heard mixed comments on coconut fiber but read that so long as it's not more than 30 to 50% it's okay, so long as the rest is edibles for the millies. I've got some millie soil I have bought from sellers, some decaying white wood, and some leaves to mix in and well as cuttle bone. I'm not new to millies but trying to set up a completely new tank in one fell swoop and finding proper soil of the quantity I need it is a bit more difficult. Leaves have become harder to come by in the quantity I need (at a reasonable price). I'm getting ready to ferment some oak wood pellets, but that'll take a month, and I have a couple oak branches I found that I will cut up a bit and bake. Appreciate any guidance on finding safe store bought soil.
