For an adult 5 or 6 inch tarantula, anything around the 5 gallon mark would be ideal. I keep most of my collection in the medium sized KK.

Here is my rosea Penny. She is in a 2.5 gal KK, the type they sell at Walmart. I measured her at 4-4.5". There is plenty of room for her to molt (if/when THAT should ever happen), but not enough room at the top for her to climb and fall. She can go partially up the sides.

She has the top off a peanut butter jar for a water dish, with small stones for the crickets she never eats.

Her substrate is 50/50 peat and reptile sand. Not everyone likes sand, but it works for her, so I'm not messing with it.

Her hide is a hollowed out 1/2 log, (so no cracks you guys about the invisible hide). LOL. The smaller KK is what I use to contain her during tank maint.
