Hmm. I'll check that out.

He told me he they were captive hatched. Perhaps some confusing in respect to video selection on my part.
He also said that he hatched 45 species or something like that{D

Captive hatched, captive born, Captive bred, CB, CBB, CH, everybody seems to have a different meaning for the expressions. Thats why when you said they were captive hacthed, I asked if they were from a WC gravid female, just to make sure we were on the same page.;)

I sure hope it isn't a '45 species' fib.

He told my friend and myself that he had not mated this the parent female at all and that she was wild caught.

Bill,

Yes, I've actually given up on trying to ID cryptic species from the comfort of my home some time ago. Just wanted to have a wild strain of Hysterocrates to study. And about H.hercules, it was described as "particularly impressive species/specimen" by Richard, so Africa can keep that. ;)

Heh. If worst comes to worst, I'll at least preserve the male I do own.

For anyone that cares about H.hercules:

Joe,

Sorry, missed your post. Thanks for the offer but I was only interested in my male's sisters. My infatuation with Hysterocrates will die with this male I guess.

Boy, if Joe's are hybrids, I sure hope he doesn't try and sell any.. ;)

This makes me wonder if the big female H. gigas I have couldn't be something else... hummmm. :?

There likely isn't even a single living Hysterocrates sp. in the USA that can be positively identified to species level...

That's the thing about him, JC...if he so easily makes things up like it's been proved he does, it makes pretty much everything he says lose any kind of meaning or truth.

That would make me a hypocrite, just like you.

The only difference is both of the parents were sold to me as gigas.

Oh, and the Hysterocrates genus has had a big question mark on it for a while, making anything sold as Hysterocrates 'questionable' as to species already.

So really, when you think about it, it's nothing like listing a hybrid vagans x albopilosum for sale. Not even close.

At one time years ago I had a female of what was supposed to be H. ederi. I also had a supposed H. scepticus also female. I got them from an individual who is no longer in the hobby. The supposed H. ederi was def. a different spider than the other. Almost jet black. He then bought them both back from me at a price more than I bought them for. I am positive they were both Hysterocrates sp. but anything else would be speculation. Time for a revision anyone?

I think what he's asking is are the spiders sold in the hobby as Hysterocrates scepticus really that species or instead just another unkown Hysterocrates...
