Rehousing stress?

My P.Regalis molted about a 3 weeks ago and is around 3"-4" leg span. about 3 days later its fangs were pitch black so i decided to give it a cricket. It ate it right up no problem. About half a week later i Bought it its new enclosure which is 12x12x16 and moved em into it. for about 2 weeks it hasn't really ate. Its behind a piece of tall bark and usually hides all day. It will move up and down the bark just not in the front of the cage at all. i gave it one small cricket a day after i rehoused and it grabbed it quickly. Only ate a tiny bit of it wrapped it thickly in web and mounted it on the side of the bark. I tried feeding it today (about a week and a half later) and it ran for the hills as soon as it saw the cricket. Is it just super stressed from rehousing? usually it runs around everywhere and eats anything i can throw at it. It also has two water dishes so i don't think its dehydrated.

Just an update

Its now in a death curl. I have no idea what i did wrong. Offered it food. plenty of water. It had two water dished but never drank from them. After the molt it ate, but when i rehoused it it wouldnt tauch a thing. It completly lifeless and wont really move when i try and nudge it gently. I decided to try out an ICU as a last hope. Set it up exactly how you guys suggest. the temp in my room is always 75-80. I forgot to wash the petsmart log i bought for it to stand on. Could that be the cause of death? gah..this is so frustrating

Sorry for your loss. :( Something definatly changed to cause that result. I doubt it was the log prehaps a bad cricket, I have seen employees pick up crickets off the floor and toss them back in the bin. After they have been out for who knows how long and crawled through who knows what.
Even in my own house if a cricket hits the floor it gets tossed outside.

How is she doing? Is she doing better?

Also, how sharp are the tips of those grasses (I'm guessing they are plastic though)? As for me I make it a rule not to use any grasses except possibly that kind they use to make juice taste bad at Jamba Juice. Grass just has these sharp edges that nobody likes.

The only thing I can suggest is maybe the grass or the bark poisoned it :(

As far as the grass was concerned what I was thinking was that the sharp points on the grass was causing the animal discomfort when she tried to go down to the substrate thus forcing her to stay on the bark and stressing her out.

Even arboreal spiders like to go down sometimes.

It's possible the petsmart log was the culprit. Also, did you just buy that plant? maybe there were residual pesticides on it. I hope she pulls through.

If she does make a comeback perhaps you could redo the enclosure with rinsed off silk plants instead of the live stuff. Scrub the heck out of that wood and then bake it in the oven at 250 for about 20-30 minutes.

the grass and plant are both real. I use them all in my other enclosure. Its really really thin and soft grass and it was also in her old enclosure which she didnt seem to mind to much. forgot what the lady called it...something like kansas or kentucky something lol. only reason i used live is for the look plus i figured it would help airflow in the tank be more natural and cleaner. Anyway, i woke up today and found her still in a deathcurl..not gonna tauch her yet to see if she has any life. i turned the shower on and took the enclosure with me hopeing. on a side note my very first spider (GBB) molted!

Congrats on the molt! At least you have some good interspersed w/ the bad...

As for the poke, is there any environmental difference in the area of the cage? Different room, under an hvac vent, proximity to heat or chemicals or something?

same room just 3 feet over on my T shelf. its near a vent, probley about 2-2.5 feet up and to the left from a heat vent. Its right next to my OBT. no chemicals, and no change in the enviroment.

I've heard of air current from heat vents really disturbing a t before. Maybe with the different vent locations on that tarantulacages.com enclosure are exposing it to more air movement than before...? It's pretty extreme for that to put a t into a curl though...

Next time though I would wait much longer before butting the beastie in a new enclosure. That and the heat vent thingy.

The grass is probably Kentucky bluegrass. I would like to know what that leafy plant is as it's rather interesting, have you had success with it before?

its pothos and its super easy to take care of. The reason why i moved em into the new enclosure is because the one the dealer gave me was "filled" with mold. i had to wait till he molted because he was in pre-molt so he was probley in the moldy container for nearly two weeks. Think that could have been the problem? and ya your dead on. Kentucky bluegrass

well... he fliped over somehow. i looked at the bottom of him and it almost looks like there is a bunch of red dark fluid on and around his mouth. i tapped him a little very gentlly and he sprawled about. any idea what this could be? is there a chance he still might make it?

You got sent a spider in pre-molt in a moldy container? Jeez, I got sent that animal I would have a beef with the dealer, that's for sure.

Sounds like she got sick off of whatever was molding up the dealer tank. You probably didn't notice it before until after the spider was rehoused. All I can think of is that the rehousing caused stress on the spider which caused its immune system to become weakened leading to the illness.

Good luck, I hope your animal makes it.

Are you certain the the red isnt the red hairs common on many Ts? My Pokie has a red patch around its fangs.

Lets hope the sling is in another pre-molt stage. The mold couldnt certainly be an issue with the stress leaving it more vulnerable(as said before)

The vent may be an issue also, but these guys also come from an environemnt that is frequently at +100 degrees during this season as we speak. Im willing to bet there habitat will likely hit 110 degress today...and I havent even looked yet. That being said, Im willing to bet in the wild they know how to insulate themselves from the heat some how.

Edit: I just checked..its supposed to be 111 degrees...it was 86 degrees at only 11:30am.
