Hey, I’m new to the forum and also new to owning spiders. I’ve just bought myself a couple of little regal jumping spiders and part of their care sheet says to keep them in sunlight during the day.
My window areas are pretty draughty so I don’t want to keep them there during winter so I was wondering if they would need a little UV light to replace the natural sunlight they won’t be getting as my house is pretty dark and doesn’t allow much natural light.
I haven’t been able to find any information regarding sunlight in relation to how it would affect their health if they weren’t to get any.
I’m hoping someone here would be able to tell me more on the subject? Thanks in advance.
They are captive bred, I’m not sure if that makes a difference as to their habitat needs.

Don't listen to that advice. Itll cook them alive.
This is why care sheets kill pets. They give false information and those who don't know any better get tricked.

They came from a reputable spider breeder here in the UK which is why I thought they might need a little UV light seen as they won’t be getting any natural light. Thanks for clarifying that they don’t need light :)

Nods. Yup. While there are uses and even benefits to UV light, the bottom line is the words of wisdom from the researcher I worked for at Cal Tech. "Think of UV as a poison being sprayed about the room. Without control or mitigation, it is no friend of any living organism."

Direct sunlight bad. UV unnecessary. Natural light cycles good. If there’s a window in the room they’re kept in, they have enough light.

Unlike tarantulas, jumping spiders can see. They hunt their prey visually. That's the only reason they need light. It doesn't need to be natural light.
