G. porteri. I don't think anybody knows exactly what a G. porteri/rosea is at the moment though. BTW, mine (in the pic) was sold to me as a G. sp "concepcion"

There we go thats what you were looking for.. And I have heard that as well about the G. rosea is the RCF and the G. porteri is the grayish looking one.. They say the G. porteri gets larger than the G. rosea RCF.. I bought both of mine as G. rosea..

See according to this i have a G.rosea. I bought it as a "flame" rose hair. My LPS doesn't use scientific names.

Yea all LPS are croc of ****.. I went in my LPS and they had a dead G. rosea and didnt even know about till I told them.. I try to tell them how to keep them WITHOUT sponges and DRY.. They dont listen.. They dont use scientific names either.. They just call theirs Rose Hairs.. And then they have a Goliath Bird Eater... I am still new to T's soo I think that is the T. blondi?? But I really dont know if they have changed them or not.. Untill I hear that its permant I think Im going to stick with G. rosea for both my girls and all 200 babies I got.. :D

Yes a Goliath Birdeater is a T.blondi. my LPS can only get in G.rosea, and some other common species so i usually don't buy from them. I used to work at my LPS years ago when i had 50+ Ts. I took care of all the Ts and snakes. Great job, but didn't pay worth a damn.

I know color is not usually a factor in differentiating species but I too have noticed a consistent difference when purchasing various "Chilean Roses". I have seen at least three distinct "morphs" (species?). Here is a regular "G. rosea"

Although it is not entirely apparent in the photograph she has very nice pink pubescence on the carapace. Here is a specimen that was sold to me as a "G. porteri" (note the complete lack of pink pubescence on the carapace, this specimen is also HUGE)

To add to the confusion, I have also seen "RCF" that lacked the pink carapace but did have orange setae. So basically, like the "porteri" above but with a orange hue to the legs. Then there is this one I purchased as a "G. concepcion" (pictured again for comparison) which has vibrant red coloration and a metallic pink carapace.

So, 4 different "kinds" (species, morphs, phases, whatever) perhaps?

To my knowledge this isn't something thats actually been done but a few dealers who have begun to market there gramastola's this way. This topic comes up every few months and as of yet I have not seen any links to any real proof of these changes.

Back to the topic at hand.

This is my girl from a fresh molt back in July, (this female is also from Biomarine)

They certainly do things like this when they can. However, both porteri and rosea are valid species names. We are seeing differences in the specimens being sold so, one can only wonder

Well I blame you guys for my new edition to the tarantula family:D . I went and got a 4.5" Female G. rosea RCF from my local PS.
She was called Flame hair in the store and to my surprise every setae is reddish brown. She has the stripes on the knees really pronounced. I can't see any pink. She definately needs a molt. So calm, a real sweetheart!

I will get pictures when I get home.

I am so happy with my RCF G. rosea. i never thought I could love a rosea{D
I could only imagine how gorgeous she is gonna look after a molt. WOW!!! So calm. no hair kicking or threats or anything. She was definatly standing out between the two "regular" roseas. I feel real lucky! She is really healthy considering she was at a petshop.

Thanks! I'm all giddy like a little school girl.:p
I really love how pronounced her striping are on her legs. How big do roseas grow anyway? She's 4.5" now. full grown? or a bit more to go.?
