I've been searching and seaching, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere. Can anybody ID it? My daughter watched monarchs and polyphemus moths metamorphisize, and we would like to see this one go thru it all. It's about 1.5" long by approx. 5/16".
Thanks,
john

Catalpa Worm

Did you find it on a Catalpa tree? This tree has big heart shaped leaves and bean like seed pods.

It looks like a catalpa worm ~ Ceratomia catalpae.

LaRiz,

It is a brown-hooded owlet, Cucullia convexipennis. It mostly feeds on aster and goldenrod.

Could be... I didn't see a little "horn" that is usually on the back of a sphinx moth (catalpa worm) but thought that could be picture angle... this comes down to where was it found? What was it feeding on?

It look like it is big enough that it could have been wandering off to pupate but look for the food... it wouldn't have been going that far.
