Just wondering what everyone thinks are the rarest species and rarest color to see on a tarantula!
The rarest color is bright green, like blades of grass or brighter, there’s only 1 species that has this color all over- and only the male has it.

Blue is the next rarest.

I forgot about my all time favorite rarest of the rare Neoholothele fasciaaurinigra.

A few years ago, I was looking for a NW arboreal that was not an A. avic and came home with an A. minatrix. I just realized that I haven't seen one for sale since - online or at shows. (Admittedly, I don't make it to many shows - especially not this past year.) So are they rare? Are they just not popular or difficult to breed?
Not rare- just infrequently bred- there are some for sale in the past month.

I have one I have just bred a month ago. I think the issue is that their sacs are not very large at all, and the demand is relatively high. I hope my girl makes a sac  She's looking quite plump.

In any case, am I the only one who thinks P rufilata is green? I know there's a lot of yellow mixed in, but it reads as green to me. Green is my favorite color for a tarantula, so I've been looking. I was told that E parvulus is also green-ish so I bought some, but who knows if they'll exhibit that gray-green carapace I want.

Hapalotremus chasqui is moss green, and I want it badly, but I don't think it's made it into the pet trade yet. I have Neoholothele incei, which appears to be a nice olive, as well as Neoholothele fasciaaurinigra, but my bumble bee girl hasn't come out of her hidey hole since she molted. Prior to that, her legs actually looked somewhat purple.

The teal colored tarantulas are cool but I don't think of them as green (A mooreae, GBB, Dolichothele diamantinensis).

TBH with all of the colors I've seen, purple strikes me as the most rare. Am I wrong?

But that's pretty much it, right? It seems to me that it's just that purple is popular so we see a lot of people posting photos of these species, not that purple is a common color in the tarantula world.

Well there's a few more that have purple that I can think of, and honestly I feel like I see purple more than most other colors. H Devamatha has a purple-y hue, as well as the phormic sp dominican. I'm sure there's more, and I feel like purple is more "common" than some other colors. Maybe it's just what I've been seeing sold recently.

I feel like we see it more because it's more popular, but perhaps you're correct and it is more common somehow. It's definitely got more of a wow factor, which is why I would say that we might see it more often, but it's not as common. Same with blue.

I just feel like green shows up fairly often, but maybe I feel that way because that's what I'm looking for.

tbh I think tarantulas with a significant amount of actual white on them are rarest. My Hapalotremus albipes will be the species with the most white I've seen on it when it gets its adult colors.

This covers all your questions. Cliff notes is no more difficult to breed or catch than any other Avic, but they have very small sack sizes because they are so small themselves.

Green is definitely the rarest as you have all hashed out.

yeah, green is the rarest color
Obligatory
I completely disagree...the green is brighter, but not the dominant color, but brightness of the green, doesn't make it more or less green....green comes in shades, it doesn't have to be bright green to BE green.

A pine tree is green, a watermelon is green, a lime is green, a cam is green...all are different shades, sure....but all are indeed, green, by definition. :cigar:

if that's brown, i'm an elf wizard. lol
I still think the thumbnail version of your avatar looks like a wizard wearing a hooded cloak with flaring gold sleeves.
